Book: The A-Z Of Analogue Synthesizers by Peter Forrest: The Buchla 100 Modular synthesizer was used by Wendy (aka Walter) Carlos and Jon Hassell, the 400 Semi-modular synthesizer (with visual score editor) by Charles Cohen and the Touché layer 64-memory synthesizer by Suzanne Ciani, David Rosenboom and Laurie Spiegel. The EMS Synthi AKS (with build-in sequencer) was used by Cabaret Voltaire, Depeche Mode, Brian Eno, Brian House (Hawkwind), JM Jarre, Alan Parsons and Pink Floyd (On The Run - see DVD Dark Side Of The Moon docu). The OSCar (Duophonic with sequencer) was used by Keith Emerson, Phillip Glass, Steve Hackett, Steve Hillage, Stev Howe, JM Jarre, Ultravox, Vangelis and Stevie Wonder. This synthesizer is known as one of the most unusual looking synthesizers ever! The colossal TONTO ('The Original New Timbral Orchestra') was used by Steve Hillage, Stevie Wonder and Frank Zappa. |

The book A-Z Of Analogue Synthesizers by Peter Forest contains a lot of information about rare vintage synthesizers, this evening I will have a look in it because of the Buchla synthesizer. You will hear from me.

Yeah good old British made mono synth, big cluncky buttons, big cluncky sounds, for the time. In fact the Ozrics use alot of vintage 80's synth gear tb303, sh101, etc... Edited by krusty |

Wow! I bet the Tonto doubles as a space heater! That is ridiculous! How did it sound? thank god for shrinking microprocessors!  Have you ever heard of the OSCar? Ozric Tentacles uses one pretty frequently. Edited by Empathy |

Anyone know the Buchla Synths, where they on any famous Prog recording etc??? Here's some of the Synths:
Buchla 200 Series:
Worlds first Digital and Analogue Synthesizer: Buchla 500 series (1971)
TONTO synthesizer:
TONTO was developed by Malcom Celil of Tonto's Expanding Head Band a Electronic Prog group from the 1970s. |
