Overrated? underrated is more like it; he is only the father of modern classical guitar; yeah, as if that changes anything. |
We've paid Segovia back many times over for what he's done. I think underrated is more of an over statement than me calling him overrated.

Oh believe me it's the other way around, even as you're right, people in the classical guitar world do respect him a lot, he may be not to your taste but calling him overrated is even more atrocious.

John Williams.
Probably because that is the only name I recognize from the list. And listen to occasionally.

I own a great compilation by Barrueco, however my encounter with Segovia was one of the greatest musical moments of my life.

I have voted Julian Bream but Andres Segovia and Pepe Romero (also a splendid flamenco guitar player - his piece Fiesta En Jerez is outstanding!) are on the same level, it is so subjective. Flamenco giant Paco De Lucia can also play great classical guitar.
By the way, half of the names you mention I don't know ..

Not including rock guitarists like Hackett and Howe, who is your favorite strictly Classical guitarist??
