I much prefer Argent's original of 'God Gave...'- in fact I don't really like anything of Kiss past about 1977 or so, but I don't think anyone can deny that their earlier stuff like 'God Of Thunder', 'Deuce', 'Black Diamond', 'Watching You' or 'Detroit Rock City' are incredible riffs.

Hardly a fan ... much prefer the UK version of glam hard rock a la Slade & Sweet.

Still Have a decent best of with about 5 tracks I really like including Black Diamond and their cover of Argent's God Gave Rock'N'Roll To You (I admit they improve on the original)

Aparently Kiss tried their hand at art-rock with Bob Ezrin producing an album called The Elder ... anyone hear it?

Back to the actual question ... I think Paul Stanley wrote most of the best Kiss songs, but for personality (perceived at least) Ace Frehley's is the one that appealed to me ...
"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”

"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present."

And that Rock School show is really cool; him coaching the kids and cheering them on shows he's got some heart and cares about kids.

Cheering them on?! Lol!

The only gig footage I've seen is him telling them they were crap etc.

Any idea how the big Judas Priest gig went? Coz I think I missed that episode.

Ace played some great guitar and has some excellent humor, unfortunately he was too often out of this world .. .. In my opinion Kiss was a very entertaining and professional rockband until they discovered the $ .. ...

Oh yeah! I had a Kiss phase!

"Destroyer" was the first "rock" album I bought. And I loved it. I own 16 albums, 2 dvds, 2 t-shirts and 6 action figures (still boxed... geek) and the stage with four extra figures. I am a total geek!

Oh yeah and I voted Gene Simmons... only coz of Rock School! That programs great!

Ace Frehley. Fav album is Rock And Roll Over, (great guitar tone on this one!) which I still listen to as frequently as, say, Deep Purple.

The only Kiss phase I went through is the one I reach when meeting the girlfriend and wanting to get cosy.

This group simply never did it for me although I must say some tracks were correct.

But their success quickly went to their heads, especially with those solo records simultaneously released. You had to have crud in your eyes not to realize that they were industrial rock or even worse corporate rock

But these guys and their whole paraphenelia products disgusted me even as a teen ager, simply because they had catalogues of their material including puppets of them, clothes etc... Trying to getkids hooked on your trash wioth comic books, only The Jackson-5 stooped lower than that with the animated comics

This was about shameless money making and they were certainly at the base of my dislike for openly commercial music .

sorry guys, have to state it as it is, not even as I see it

Just thought it would be interesting to see who was/ or is your favorite member of the band.

Yeah...I went through a Kiss phase.I spent the ages from 4 to 14 in the 70's,and they were quite popular when I was a kid.Despite being a drummer myself  I never cared for Peter Criss much,I always liked Ace Frehley.

To be honest I have to say I thought Kiss' early work is top notch, heavy glam-metal. For sure, it's a heck of a lot better than any of the 80s hair metal bands who shamelessly aped Kiss' sound. However, whether I could listen to anything past 'Destroyer' or so is highly doubtful- 'Lick It Up' and 'Crazy Crazy Nights' are just terrible...

I'm willing to admit I had a Kiss phase, and saw them a couple of times. Hardly the 'hottest band in the world' as they claimed, but still great fun. Ace was my favourite member. I liked his laid back, space ace persona. I quite liked his solo album too.

I've been watching Gene Simmons' Rock School on UK TV. I dont know how he puts up with some of those kids!  On the other hand, how they put up with him is a mystery.

Best Kiss album for me was Destroyer.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!
