Topic: Which sub-genre prog fan are you ?? Posted: April 25 2006 at 13:50 |
Definitely 70’s era Symphonic prog. But I like art rock and space rock too. I listen to other genres too but not as much as these which I mentioned.

I don't go for this sub-genre lark - to me it's either Prog or it isn't. So I voted for all.
One curiosity - if so few people seem to like 'Prog Metal' how come an awful lot of space on ProgArchives is taken up with talking about it?

I'm mainly a fan of the 70's. Bands Like Camel, Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd, Gentle Giant, National Health, etc. As far as prog scenes go, I tend to lean towards Canterbury and Rock-In-Opposition styles, but I love the symphonic stuff.

I'm an all-prog person and always try to keep an open mind. However, I have my favourite sub-genres as well, namely '70s Symphonic, Canterbury scene, prog-folk and Art Rock.

Then the time is right to immerse yourself in bands from these genres. Never too late, and always a pleasure.

My favourite has always been 70's symphonic prog, but there's something good in all the sub genres. I'm prepared to believe there may even be some good prog metal out there somewhere, it's just very well hidden..

Most of my favorite bands are 70s symphonic, though I've found Canterbury to be the most enjoyable, all around. Very little crap in that subgenre, as opposed to tons of crappy symph. bands.
RIO, Fusion, Kraut, Italian, and Folk are all good too.

Canterbury Scene, RIO/Avant-garde, Symphonic, Space, Kraut, (some)
Italian, Neo Prog (some), (some) Fusion, (very little) Electronic.
I barely listen to progmetal or post-rock.
