Well Micky, I go to the USA where you show me the blues (I play some on acoustic guitar so a jam is a possibility ) and you are welcome in Europe where I show you the flamenco in Andalusia but also in Holland and Belgium, it's very popular in cities like Amsterdam, Utrecht, The Hague (Holland) and Antwerp (Belgium). But I am afraid that this will be a dream because after buying the great Prog Andaluz CD's you wil have run out of money .... ........

There is a similarity between the American black blues that is rooted where you live Micky and the flamenco by the Andalusian gypsies, both created by very poor people who used music as a way to express their emotions and frustrations, that's why the black blues and the flamenco sound so emotional ... !

I hope you once will be flooded by the 'duende', the spark between the musicians and the spectators, often accompanied by the 'ole', 'ole' shouts (and I don't mean the awful bullfighting ), very special so I recommend you to visit a flamenco concert, it's becoming more and more popular because genuine flamenco (not the tourist fake flamenco ) sounds so pure, exciting and straight from the heart

oh god Erik... I have a thing for that style of singing.... I took to
it immediately.... I posted as much in the what's in the CD player
thread.. they match perfectly and it a damn great album... may be
another 5 star album for modern symphonic prog. I'd like to
hear some others of their before going that high though.. may be 4
until I have something to judge their 'progression' upon. A great
recommend...

Micky, keep in mind that after a first listening session, I was shocked by the opera-like vocals ...... but gradually I started to appreciate these vocals and eventually I got the opinion that the vocals match perfectly with the captivating and unique symphonic prog by Kotobel !

I once made a promise to Erik to review several albums from the Spanish prog scene.
Well today after months of delay, I managed to review Mezquita - Recuerdos De Mi Tierra (4 stars). I hope to reach others as well, but I think it will take me several more months.
By the way, for those who joined us recently, enjoy discovering this thread.

Prog-Brazil his contribution points at the heart
of the matter: some categories are so distinctive that it would be
better to create categories like Prog Andaluz (flamenco inspired) and
Latin Prog (last year I received a bunch of Latin-Prog cd's, incredible
how original these sound!) in order to send longing progheads in those
specific directions (flamenco, South-American rhythms). This thread has
prooved that there is a need for that but I am repeating myself, there
will be no new categories like Prog Andaluz and Latin-Prog but in
threads we will not be prosecuted to use these terms ! |
Thanks guys. I love this discussion.
Congratulations for this thread!
