Topic: PoS vs Opeth Posted: January 24 2006 at 13:19 |
Both are great and both have original and fantastic elements in their music. For me, POS and Opeth are ex aequo on 1st place

I have to go with Opeth. I've only heard a little PoS from a friend and couldn't really get into them. Opeth's lyrics are so beautiful and the growls are simply an amazing medium for them. I should note that I'm a huge metal fan, though and I love good death vocals. Also, I saw Opeth last year with Nevermore and Fireball Ministry and they were simply the best on-stage show I've ever seen. No flash, no gimmicks just the band completely owning the crowd. I'm going to see them on March 1st and this will be the 3rd time I've seen them.

I like POS, they're good, but Opeth is better. If Opeth is
overrated by the hordes of metal fans, then they're underrated by this
site if this thread is any indication.

Pain of Salvation by miles. Their music is far more exciting, versatile and emotional, and they have far better lyrics.Daniel Gildenlöw is an amazing singer/songwriter.
I don't know what's that great about Opeth. They are not bad but nothing really special or inspiring.Honestly, they are not on my prog. metal map.

Try Remedy Lane!
Listen to it several times, maybe it needs some time.

PoS is by far more original than Opeth. Opeth, by far, is kinda overrated by the hordes of Metal fans, while PoS takes the backseat.

The only one I know is The Perfect Element Pt. 1. It's a very good album, but don't go in expecting metal per se. I was thrown a bit at first and really didn't know what to think, but the album has really grown on me. If you've heard Riverside, it is fairly similar in style IMO.

The only Pain of Salvation album that has impressed me is One Hour by the Concrete Lake.
I voted for Opeth.

Pain Of Salvation's music is so much deeper, and mature, of course.
Still, they're two of my favorite prog bands.

I can't really agree with that. Opeth reminds me of a Porcupine Tree/Death Metal blend with some exceptions.
Pain of Salvation has a far more unique musical style and ideas. |
Maybe if you've only heard the Steve Wilson-produced Opeth albums, but
they're hardly the pinnacle of the band's quality anyways...
I'd choose Opeth of the two. I absolutely love a lot of PoS's stuff,
but I also dislike a lot of it, so Opeth is an easy choice for me.

Opeth for me. I love them both though (well, at least The Perfect Element as it's the only POS I own).

I'll go with POS. However, Opeth-Morningrise is one of the best albums ever IMO...
