Of coursethe use of English doesn't help Mr. Crompton, but when you get the idea it's refreshing as Easy Living said.

But this only applies to albums that have enough ratings like Foxtrot or Dark side of the Moon.

As you say Ivan, for albums like "Foxtrot" which have already been reviewed many times, it is refreshing to read something a little different.

heh, this same guy seems to have a bit of an issue with my (unpopular) view on Close to the Edge...

5 stars  —   I was just reading the review by Bryan Adair, and though I respect these views Bryan (as every one has to have opinion on these things), you also have to understand that it's not imortant to understand, and that Prog Rock is feeling and emotion. also to make a resonable resolution of thought regarding this area of atmosphere, there has to an equaly open heart of passion and love. So it could be possible that if this album dose not fill you with love and a wonderful feeling then maybe you might not yet be ready for this type of music and even there nothing wrong with this type of listener, we have to respect this type of responce as we are all human and this dose not make a bad person. It could just means that they are not ready.

There are a lot of great reviews in Progarchives, most of them provide us of valuable information and technical details that may be new for us, but a few times you can find an excellent review that says almost nothing about the album or the music.

I thought everything was said about Foxtrot, but today I read this review:

GENESIS - Foxtrot

  —   At an early age I was exposed to the wonders of prog rock. this gave my an insight to how emotions and other feelings could by felt and manipulated, controled with desires and love in a way that is now so important that it's like having a belief in something. It take a sertain type of personality and mind to be able to really take in what prog rock is (and it's not a concept album like they said on the top ten prog rock bans - it can be the smallest of songs). The first albums I was introduced to by my Dad was, Foxtrot and Close to the Edge. I was sat down and advised to read the words on the album covers and sleves ,I was 10 or 11 years old. They both blew my mind and change my direction in life from there on. You see there is alot of music out know that's very boring and undemanding also. There is nothing much in what we are being given out at pressent that can stand up to the masters who have done the work already and it's going to be very hard to. Foxtrot opens up a world that exists in my mind that I wish would be a reality too. With story telling and a wonderment of emotion this is truly a classic piece of music that sets itself apart from the albums produced (after Peter Gabriel left the group) which turned into more of a commercial band for the none understanding (of prog rock) audiences. So get a drink or lots of drink, dim the lights and get comfortable, disconect any phones and be well away from any distractions, have the music turned up but not to loud as to hurt the ear drums (very important you have to enjoy it you see), close your eyes. Now you can enter a new world were everything is good. Peter Gabriel has still got it too. 
 

Simply found it incredible, Paul Crompton transmits nothing but feelings and memories but after 10 or 20 reviews about Foxtrot almost nothing more could be said about it but this.

 

Despite the orthographic and grammatical mistakes (Probably not a native English speaker)  that don't affect the essence of the text, I'm sure some prog' newbies will read this review and feel the need to listen this album, because Paul is sharing part of his life instead of just valuable data that can be found in many other reviews about this great album.
