Managed to get through 'Harvest of souls' by IQ this evening

It WAS worth the wait.
Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

Is it only eight hours? I was under the impression it was ten or eleven..? Still I've only heard excerpts from it.

Personally I don't mind if I have to shut it off and resume listening to it later due to time constraints.

I have notice recently that bands like Dream Theatre with their 6 Degrees of Inner Turbulance they allow the listener to pick it up at some different point in the tune by having it sectioned off into 8 parts .Personally I have never done that myself.

Thanx Ivan, My brother has it somewhere in his archive, The eight hours I refered to was on remembering it consist of 4 pieces, therefor I guessed 2 hours a piece. I attempted to listen to it once, it's great but a little to long to listen to completely, you saved me a trip to my brother (and how embarrissing) asking him about music, would be the world upside-down. I'll go anyway and try and listen to it once more.

I bought IQ's 'Dark Matter' last week. So far I have been unable to listern to all of 'Harvest of souls' I dont seem to have a 25 minute window anywhere  Still, if the rest of the album is anything to go by, the wait will be worth it.

I have never listerned to 'Topographic oceans' in one hit. 'The revealing science of God' is about all I can bare in one go, before I'm Yessed out. No offence to Yes fans

 

The ultimate is 'Suppers Ready' I can not and will not listern to parts of this track. I have to have the whole thing. Even when the vinyl offered the chance to skip sections, I wouldn't. On the CD, of course. the whole of SR is one track.

While it may be sacrilege, gdub411, I have to agree with carl! that a loooooong piece can be difficult to listen to in its entirity.  I rarely have a full hour that I can devote to listening (truly listening) to music.  If I have 15 minutes, I can listen to a shorter track, or go to a section of the longer track. 

As an example, I purchased the first Transatlantic disk when it first appeared.  I did not listen to it in full for probably two years, because the first track is 30 minutes long.  I kept getting interrupted, and could never fully appreciate the piece.  It wasn't until I heard the whole thing that I realized what a great disk it is.  Now if I only have a few minutes, I can listen to "We All Need Some Light". 

I love AMAROK, but I have only listened to it twice, both times in the car on business trips.  It makes no sense to throw it on when you know that in ten minutes you have to run an errand.

Sorry for the sacrilege.

well, some long songs are amazing, anonymus 2 and eruption by focus or ash ra tempel's and Jade Warrior songs are very good long songs.  But 60-80 minutes?  damn, to much of a good thing!

that's sacrilege...you have to listen to it as it was meant to be...in it's complete form...are you the type of guy who listens to In A Gadda Da Vida only in its single form?....probably not if you are a member of this site!
