How did Bladerunner not make it into this list? That's quite possibly my favorite movie score of all time. Also missing the very pleasant Oceanic. I guess I have to go with 1492 otherwise.

Difficult to say which is "the best", but my favourites are:
- The Dragon (1971)
- Heaven and Hell (1975)
- Opera Sauvage (1979)
- 1492 (1992)
- El Greco (1998)

Andrew for you a top ten:
1.Spiral - heavy electronic album.My favourite.
2.Heaven and Hell - symphonic prog masterpeice
3.Albedo 0.39 - classic electronic/prog crossover music
4.China - a personal favourite.Explores oriental themes and contains lots of melody
5.Antarctica - probably his best 'New Age' album..very relaxing!
6.Blade Runner - classic film soundtrack, lots of ambience and atmosphere
7.Direct - underrated electronic/prog album.Quite heavy in style.
8.The Dragon - good early non synth album
9.Soil Festivities - more 'New Age' with a darker tone to Antarctica
10.Oceanic - nice dreamy stuff,although a bit bland

"The City" and "Blade Runner" are two highly recommendable albums. In fact almost every Vangelis album is, at least for me. "China" and "The Conquest of Paradise" are other good one too.

IMO Heaven and Hell by far.
Imaginative, original, beautiful orchetration, how he blends the pompous Orthodox Sacred Music with some pagan influence is just wonderful, everything is perfect in this album, a masterpiece that deserves 5 stars.

I really like Heaven and Hell, and most of what I've heard up to 1978 has been pretty good. After Beauborg I have found his music tends to drift more into new age territory (something he was always prone to) although some of his soundtrack work has been superb.

I only know Beaubourg, just a collection of sounds, did nothing for me. And China, like that one. Maybe you can recommend another one ?

Some time ago i bought for my father the VANGELIS's "Odyssey" - The Definitive Collection because one day, watching a documentary, he heard the song "The Conquest Of Paradise" and he asked me who was that artist and if i could find it in a music store. So i bought him this compilation which is very good, but which are their best studio albums? Could you make a TOP 10?
