Of course, Yes. When people who dislike prog have to mention a band that sumarize all their hate, they easily say Yes. I think the same works in the reverse order. So, Close to the Edge (album and song) is the best description of what is prog rock in its quintessence.

Genesis, mainly because they incorporated theatricals into their stage show as well as being creative musicians, though Yes come close and ELP could stake a claim too. Camel came later and were the best of all but didn't define the genre.

I'm sorry that I didn't include enough people, I've been kicking my self over Emerson Lake and Palmer.
Hold on, I'll revise it.

I'd say Gentle Giant. I'm angry because you didn't include them.

I voted
Genesis. Even though I've broadened my horizons since I first
discovered Genesis, I have yet to hear anything as enjoyable as
them. Sure, there are many bands with extremely good songs that I rank
as just as good, but this far I have only found one album that I rank
as good over all as "Trespass", "Nursery Cryme", "Foxtrot", "Selling
England By The Pound" and "The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway" and that's
"Thick As A Brick" with Jethro Tull.
Genesis will probably always be the Great Ones for me.
