My vote is 100% subjective, I never liked Hendrix, always considered him loud and overrated.
My vote goes for Brian May, I value very high a unique sound, in less than 3 seconds you recognize Brian plus the subjective argument that I like his style.

For me it was a tough choice between Hendrix and Van Halen. Both have created their distinct sound whom so many plagerise to this day, if you don't believe the influence then listen to prog-metal. Symphony X and so many other groups may have never existed without Eddie, whether this band knows it or not. It's clear in the guitar. One word, fingerpicking.

Gary Moore is my second favourite guitarist after Hackett.
The best guitar solo of all time is in Gary Moore's "Story of the Blues"

I voted for Hendrix as ever... but I would like to remember a good guitar hero (even not being flamboyant or exhibitionist): Roger McGuinn, from The Byrds.

Brian May, particularly for his solo on Live Killers.
