Topic: The Best Year of Prog Posted: December 12 2005 at 16:53 |
Historically, I would say 1973, but 81 and on recieved my vote............I started buying vinyl in 81 and going to gigs in 85.............it's been 20 good years! I think had I been going to gigs in the 70's tho, my vote would have been there..............
although, I agree with the guy who said "the next year"........we need to look forward, we need to move forward, we really do!
Moving forward does not mean denying the past so please don't lampoon me!

I voted 1974, but in almost any year between 1971 and 1981 I can mention 2 albums which belong to my top favourite albums.

I've always thought it's 73, but now that I think of it, I don't really know why

1971-74 the best period.
I can't pick a single best year.

omg! this is a tough one.
it will be betwen 1972-1973. At least for symphonic prog.
Can´t separate them as single years, for me is more like a whole phase.
Lots of big bands recorded amazing albums during this phase:
Foxtrot → Selling England by the Pound (Genesis)
Thick as a Brick → Passion Play (Jethro Tull)
Close to the edge → Tales From Topographic Oceans (recorded on 1973 but released on January 9, 1974) (Yes)
Darwin → Io Sono Nato Libero (Banco)
Uomo di Pezza → Felona e Sorona (Le Orme)
But if someone points a gun at my head and orders me to choose...... i
think ill go....ill go...eh...er....maybe...it could be......1972? But
just for what the five 1972 albums listed above mean to me

Impossible to name.

Have to say 1977.
Was the year I discovered it! Plus we had 'Animals' , 'Going for the one', 'Seconds out', 'Even in the quietest moments' etc etc...
