I suppose it's a tie between King Crimson and Gentle Giant when it comes to the older acts....of the newer ones, I'd have to agree with the Volta. Forgot Van Der Graaf as well.

Number One will always be YES
Number Two has to be RUSH
Of the ones on your list, I picked TransAtlantic because I've been listening to them a lot, but truth be told, Genesis is the best of your choices.

This is simple for me: "Other" is the only appropriate choice since my all-time fav. band is YES

Well I answered before reading your1st post, this is just a "whats your
favourite" poll, and mine's Yes. I thought the question was, which
stands out as in being distinctive from the rest, either musically or
otherwise, for which I could understand Gentle Giant getting many
votes...and it was on this basis I voted for Frank Zappa.

I said gentle giant before i saw the "other" option...but gentle giant is definately the best up there in my opinion...otherwise you would've recieved an "other" for The Mars Volta.

I think King Crimson sticks higher out of the field.
Their prog is darker than any other. Fripp's own guitar tuning gives a unique atmosphere.
They also have this style where they want to build up music with layer upon layer upon layer. It sometimes sounds like a canon.
I think there can be musical parallels drawn with Gentle Giant.
