Topic: Pawn hearts-best song Posted: December 13 2005 at 10:54 |
hard choice! maybe, and just for today, Man-Erg
about Erg, I have a book with translated lyrics of VdGG/Hammil, and it says that is an energy measure unit...
off topic, I always wonder what the "C" of pioneers over C means...of course, silly me, the speed of light!

reading in VdGG book Peter Hammill wrote Plague.. in an ice-cream van,
that doubled as a tour bus, on the riotous Italian VdGG tour where they
were being mobbed in the streets by enthusiatic fans. Hammill hid away
in the ice-cream van and penned the epic piece.
Hugh Banton was not thrilled. After Lemmings and Man Erg on side 1 he
wanted 4 or 5 catchy tunes to complete Pawn Hearts. Imagine his
reaction on first hearing Plague....
The book is fabulous, essential reading.

A plague on lighthouse keepers; just listen to that with headphones in a dark room and you will seriously get freaked out.

Lemmings is the first track, that opens the apetite of the listener. so, you can hear the album rgow from this incredible track, with a Killer ending, a lot of speed, and an incredible level of poetry. Of course, the whle album fits into this dscription, but I just love the way it starts.

thank U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

See if I remember this right.....
Name of the album came from David Jackson. He meant to say:
I need to put some horn parts on the album.
Instead he said:
I need to put some porn harts on the album
And from this album became Pawn hearts......
The cover shows a range of characters all enclosed in transparent
pawn shapes, with a background of the Earth. The idea is meant to be
that we are all pawns, whether we are kings, poor people or Swedish.
Man-Erg relates to the fact each of us contains good elements (angels) and bad elements (killers) |
ok, first of all thank U...
I got it all
exept the man-erg- i mean i get allready from the song that it means that each of us has angels and killers...
but i whnt to know what is "Man-Erg" ,what is the meaning of this...

Man Erg gets my vote. It's one of a number of VDGG songs that I would class as a masterpiece.
Plague is also fantastic, of course, but Man Erg just about beats it IMO.

Ultimately bored by endless ecstasy!

A masterpiece...the ending where the two different themes in the song clash against each other...sublime!
