I have heard 60-70% of all those you list. Just looking for specific mostly instrumental prog for 70's italy that is as original and diverse as the ones I previously mentioned. If you know some specifically. thanks |

Hello Andrew, you're really a great connoisseur of the italian progrock field! What do you think about Riccardo Zappa? What about the first three Alan Sorrenti's (progrock) albums? Meglio non abusare troppo dell'italiano, altrimenti poi gli altri non capiscono! |

This is a good poll ... and the three albums I've heard are all excellent ... T2, Comus and Tonton Macoute ...
I voted for T2 ... but even that was a tough choice ... now I'm even more keen to hear the others! |

Andrew, maybe you can help me looking for 70's instrument prog(sorry, but italian lyrics get in the way of the music for me). Anyway Ill give you a list of the ones I know I like and see if you have others for suggestion. I have heard most of the releases by the artists I name, so only looking for new artists I havent heard. Picchio dal Pozzo - debut, Il Volo - Essere, o non essere!, Sensations Fix - Portable Madness, Luciano Basso - Voci and Il Baricentro - Trusciant. thanks for the help! DB |

My vote goes to the Arzachel album. Especially the 2nd side (of the vinyl) is excellent.

Wow, that's a lot of obscure progressive...can they really all
be masterpieces if they're that unknown? I don't know, but you gotta love a band with three mellotron players in the line-up. Did they really have three mellotrons? Sounds like a touring nightmare. The only album there I know is Arzachel, but I think it's too sketchy to qualify as a masterpiece. Check out Jan Hammer's "The First Seven Days" (1975) for a true forgotten masterpiece. Out of print for years, it just came out on CD very recently, and I still find it the best multi-keyboard album ever made. Edited by RoyalJelly |

My fave of these is either T2's album or Spring, and seeing as Spring had a few votes I'll go for T2.

Spring's only album belongs more to the pop-progressive than to
the prog rock field, so I was slightly disappointed when I first listened to it, then it grew on me. If I had heard more from Comus maybe they would have been my choice for this poll. Can't find them in the shops, sh*t! |

Can't say I'm lucky enough to have heard all these, but of the ones I know, Comus - First Utterance just barely beats out the Spring album. Both GREAT. Is Artcane - Odyssee "forgotten" enough to consider? NOBODY talks about this album, and it's one of my favorites ever, obscure or otherwise. |

I voted for Fantasy and Fruupp albums. Not masterpieces but very good symphonic prog albums. By the way, Fruupp did release 4 albums, all of them very close in style and very even. For those who don't know, they sound a bit like early Genesis which would be folkier and without mellotron (they use a Solina string ensemble I think).
