Yorke by far. Green Plastic Trees. You cannot get more emotional and expressive than Thom Yorke. Plus his singing style is more innovative, different, unusual, and amazing.

Very tough choice, but I'd have to say Maynard

You cannot compare Maynrd's or Thoms voices they are at both ends of the spectrum, Maynard has the better 'rock' voice, big, strong an powerful like in the grudge or parabol/parabola even when he is singing quietly it still has power, almost mystical at times. Thom on the other hand its not as powerful, quite frail by comparison but his voice is soft and gentle, you can feel his lyrics like on fake plastic trees or in paranoid android. So whilst Maynard has the power Thom has the feeling. Thats my view anyway and I love both Tool and Radiohead. |

I find Yorke's voice to be less plain than Maynard's.

Chico Marx, never one to miss a "punning" situation, had this bit of dialogue in Horse Feathers, in his patented fake Italian accent, while accompanying a music student singing scales:

It is a tough decision, especially because their styles are so different. IMO, maynard's lyrics are superior, and I like his ridiculous ability for sustain. Thom's voice is very emotional, he uses falsetto very effectively and his lyrics are also quite brilliant. They both have weak points, and they are both definitely acquired tastes.
I think I am going to have to side with MJK on this one, because while they are both great singers, maynard's weak points don't bother me as much as thom's. |

why, mainly vocals, but if the singer also writes the lyrics they should be taken into account as well. |

Agreed. I once had a bootleg (mp3) of Mike Keneally performing Paranoid Android live ... just a guitar + 2 vocalists. GREAT lyrics indeed! |

Yorke - he has so much more soul than Maynard. Yorke's lyrics are among the very best out there today, IMO. Edited by Certif1ed |

Maynard for me too. He has so much more soul than Thom Yorke, of course that's my own perception.
I love the scream at the end of The Grudge. Thom Yorke's lyrics.... meh.. I think they're pretty average. |
