Topic: Fish or Gabriel Posted: November 29 2005 at 21:30 |
This is a mean one! I'd like to vote for both of them but since that's not possible I'll have to make a decision.
I voted for Fish because he's more emotional than Gabriel (but only by a small margin)

Gabriel is my favorite singer and solo artist ever.
Fish is pretty good, but he still derives from gabriel, plus I just don't like his voice as much, they may sound similar, but gabriel's got that extra punch.

The curious thing is that most of the posts are for Gabriel.
Why go with the pupil if you have the real deal.........Gabriel all the way, lyrics, emotion and voice, in all aspects.

Oh, so when the question, "Who do you prefer?" is asked everyone must immediately vote for your favourite?

Well, Gabriel is generally considered up at the top of the prog
vocalists list with guys like J. Anderson and Hammill. To see a
normally rated second teir guy like Fish actually beating Gabriel in a
poll is kind of surprising.

Fish has too much "strange" lyrics and failed a couple of LPs (suits, sunset on empires). While Gabriel NEVER failed an album.

I really enjoy both those albums you mentioned.

Fish doesn't copy Gabriel. He was slightly influenced by him for sure,
but he was also influenced by Hammill too and that is seldom mentioned.
He is not a clone or a cheap imitation of Gabriel.
Fish totally destroys Gabriel lyrically. Gabriel might technically be a better singer but Fish puts more emotion into his performances, IMO.
