We should really leave it as it is. I thought about this a while ago. Then I added (And The Magic Band) in parentheses behind Beefheart and I thought about adding (And The Mothers Of Invention) behind Zappa, but it was too long IMO. Splitting his discography would be useless. For instance, Apostrophe and Over-Nite Sensation would be in different sections, while they have much in common. Zappa was the driving force behind ALL Mothers' albums and I don't know ANY musicstore or website that files the Mothers' album apart from Zappa's "solo" work.

^ I'll ask Max & a few others how they feel, since it's not really up to me to make these decisions.

Most people on this site are probably not very familiar with The Mothers of Invention and Frank Zappa.  So that's probably why people haven't complained about it.

It's just a suggestion to avoid continued confusion as to who to created the albums.  For about 20 years, the albums were completely separated by group.  But in the late 80's, Zappa started to re-release everything under his own name (including these albums by The Mothers).  Kinda selfish and misleading.  It's like saying Selling England By the Pound is a Phil Collins album, Close to the Edge is a Chris Squire album, and Dark Side of the Moon is a David Gilmour album.

Oh well, I'm not going to make a big deal out of it.  I just thought that this website should strive for accuracy, since many listeners (old and new to prog.) come to this site to learn more about groups.  The less accurate it is, the less useful it is...

Hmm, that's true, but if I'm right, we would have to create a totally new page for The Mothers Of Invention. IMO it's probably not worth the effort, since there have been very little complaints so far.

Any other opinions?

Correction for Prog. Archives:

Many of the albums credited as "Frank Zappa" should really be credited as "The Mothers of Invention".  These include:

Freak Out!

Absolutely Free

We're Only in it For the Money

Cruising With Rueben and the Jets

Uncle Meat

Mothersmania:  The Best of the Mothers

Burnt Weany Sandwich

Fillmore East, June 1971

Just Another Band From LA

Waka/Jawaka

Over-nite Sensation

Roxy & Elsewhere

One Size Fits All

Bongo Fury (last album)

Frank Zappa released a few solo albums during the Mothers period (Lumpy Gravy, Hot Rats, Chunga's Revenge, Apostrophe) before abandoning the Mothers altogether.  Everything from Zoots Allures on is solo Frank Zappa.

Thanks.
