Not so ugly, this poor thing had 15 years, catarats and lost many teeth, but it's more common here, known as Chinese Dog, is really the Peruvian Inca Orchid Hairless Dog (Registered in the Kenell):

This is not Sam, but you can see the similarities, not all are so ugly:
