You have probably lost your mapping to the midi playback device. Check Audio and sound in the control panel. Go to the audio tab and check out the section on midi default playback device. You may have, depending on your card, a couple of entries in there. One would be Microsoft GS Wavetable SW synth and another may be the chip that is on your sound card. Try playing with these. If the midi is in GS format, some or all the instruments may not be recognised if you have not selected a GS synth to play them back. The drums will play back because channel 10 is a common allocation for drums between either GM2 or GS format.

SOMETIMES IT PLAYS ONLY DRUM BEATS,  RIGHT?

IT HAPPENED TO ME.

Well remember that MIDI files just instructs the sound card on what sounds to play...So that is why midi files will sound different on different soundcards...ah i prefer sounblaster 16 to playback midi files...i fell that is the soundcard that gives the most accurate reproduction

And some soundcards have more MIDI instruments that others and it might come out messy or some of the sounds are missing
