Banning him would only flame the rap/hip-hop movement, and thats the absoulute LAST thing I want. We should just let it die down on it's own, as it looks like it is, at least too me. The majority of people I talk too don't like it, the only reason it still looks too be popular is from the wannabecool posers who still buy it and vote for it on MTV.

I want him to release on his death bed that his music influenced a whole generation of arsonists and criminals. Also, I believe that in 10 years gangster-rap will be a completely inferior form of music as it is very simple and repetitive. I can put up with other music, but Gagster rap has no real purpose and is very mindless and demeaning.

Ancient Democratic Athens was very supportive of freedom of speach... However, being bright greeks as they were, they devised this mechanism I believe was called grapheparanomon (any greeks in the audience please correct me if I'm wrong), which basicly stated anyone could say anything, but the remaining community would have the right to shut him up permanently if they thought what he said was rubbish.

One should get these old laws back. Don't ban the man. Just beat the crap out of him.

Although 50 Cent truly stinks, I'd rather see you banned right now. This is a shockingly hateful, stupid, untrue, an ignorant post. The worst yet by a non-troll. Congratulation.

Of course not, he's free to do whatever music he wants to. To want him banned is only close-minded and actually pretty childish. We must learn to accept all music and respect the artists' freedom to create whatever they want to, even if we despise it.

Because I like this one. And I'm not trying to actually censor anyone; I'm trying to get people to use words instead of annoying emoticons. I know this site is looser (where else to people respond to somebody's signature in a random thread that the person happened to post in?), and I'm going to make a thread about it so people can understand my reasoning. All I'll say for now is that "Use graphic emotions less because they are lazy, annoying, and degrade the English language." is damn unweildy.

All of that is your opinion, and not fact.

Many of us find emoticons to be quite useful to help convey emotion in text-based communication. For those of us who type very slowly, they are also quick to use. (Also, I -- and likely many of my generation here -- am fairly new to the web, and I find the emoticons to be much more intuitive than those text thingies. (For the longest time, when playing backgammon online, I had no idea why people kept typing : ). Yes, eventually I figured out it represented a friendly smile (albeit on its side), but the meaning of this cheery little fellow was clear from the start: Smile

Emoticons are popular for a reason, and, whether you mean to or not, when you attack the use of them here, you are indirectly attacking the site's owners and their decision to have them on their forum. Most annoyingy, however, you are attacking the way I and many others here choose to communicate, and hence your (former) sig becomes a legitimate target of my displeasure. (Effectively, you have just labelled me "lazy," "annoying," and a threat to the English language, above.)Ouch

Your sig was thus an "in your face" criticism of this site and various of its members -- many of whom, like myself, have been here long before you. Therefore, I might reasonably label you in turn as being "confrontational," "uptight," "condescending," "unfriendly," or "snooty." Constantly "correcting" others -- outside of an English class, perhaps, where you are the teacher, and paid to do that -- will only offend them, and make you look like a nasty, smug prick, er person. (You also thus invite others to look for any little flaws or typos in your written communication, and, as you are human and fallible like the rest of us, you will make mistakes.)

There is also the issue of the manner in which we seek to get others to change their ways. Have you ever heard the expression: "You'll catch more flies with sugar, than with vinegar?" I think it is very apt in this case.Stern Smile

Most of us are here to share a love of music, to make like-minded friends, and for fun -- not to be taken to task for our various modes of communication!

Lighten up -- there are much larger issues out there which are more deserving of your youthful crusading zeal!Smile

Don't ban him. As someone said, are you going to band Death Metal as well? The Dead Kennedys? Where does it stop?

You can't forcibly change people's music taste. They have to want to find good music, and not just listen to whatever's on the radio for that.

Thumbs UpThat's pretty much in line with my thinking on this.

"Forbidden fruit" can be very attractive, especially to a young person.

Parental guidance, not outright state censorship, is indicated (not that my kids would want any of his stuff anyway).

You can buy a gun, can't you? Surely that's much more likely to lead to real trouble than a mere rap CD (no matter how distasteful).

Perhaps death metal should be banned too? Once the banning starts, where does it stop?

What would Zappa say? Stern Smile

Agree with you 100% (For a change LOL) his music may suck and according to my taste it does suck.

If I had a TV station I would never play it but that's my personal choice, what should be mandatory is to explain parents of the nature of his lyrics before playing a song.

But I disagree with censorship in public places also. Now in private places, the owners are allowed to decide what to play or not.

It sounds like someone should check out the Zappa thread. There is a link there to a clip where he debates censorship.
