I went with Rypdal and I believe that was sent to me from you. Thankyou!
A massive year really.
Here's an obscure one from '74, "Tales Of The Exonerated Flea" by drummer Horacee Arnold. John Abercrombie and Ralph Towner on guitars, Sonny Fortune and Art Webb on horns, Jan Hammer on keys, Rick Laird on bass. Come on!

^ I appreciate the opportunity and latitude to mention others (some people don't like mentions of any others) while also mentioning the ones in your list that I love. I do try to vote for ones in the list if I know and like at least one and otherwise I might state that I can't vote for any with a reason and make my own list. In this case there were several that I could have very happily voted for. From Greg's (The Dark Elf's list) I would vote for Red over Gryphon, from Jared's mentions, I think Focus over Gryphon and Hawkwind, and from Saperlipopette!'s others, I think Can over the Cosmic Jokers. There certainly is no shortage of great music. 1974 is an amazing year! And it a really nice time in that most of us (at least who like classic years) probably have many loved albums liked by most others here. Tastes overlap a lot more in the late 60 and 70s, after that it becomes more divisive. I mean it still be divisive, but easier to find music likes in common than later.

PFM from your list.

My list would see choices that are generally more well known such as Yes's Relayer, Power and the Glory by Gentle Giant, Red and Starless and Bible Black by KC, Camel's Mirage, Crime of the Century by Supertramp, Genesis's Lamb, Kansas's debut, Chicago VII, Return to Forevers's Where Have I Known You Before and Weather Reports's Mysterious Traveler.

Music has always been a matter of energy to me. On some nights I believe that a car with the needle on empty can run 50 more miles if you have the right music very loud on the radio. Hunter S Thompson

I love these four. Voted for Phaedra but I might have gone for Rypdal...

Tangerine Dream-Phaedra
Terje Rypdal-What Comes After
Dzyan-Electric Silence
Edgar Froese-Aqua

Man, what an amazing year for music of all kinds. I love every album Logan posted, and this dozen too:

Terje Rypdal - Whenever I Seem to Be Far Away
Camel - Mirage
Arti & Mestieri - Tilt (Immagini per un orecchio)
The Cosmic Jokers - Galactic Supermarket
Can - Soon Over Babaluma
King Crimson - Starless and Bible Black
Klaus Schulze - Blackdance
Egg - The Civil Surface
Residents - Meet the Residents
Sensations' Fix - Portable Madness
The Cosmic Jokers - The Cosmic Jokers
Renaissance - Turn of the Cards

of fifteen really... but these are perhaps less Prog relevant, but they are on PA:

Miles Davis - Big Fun
Miles Davis - Get Up With It
Eberhard Weber - The Colours of Chloë

Thanks for your input; some of those on your list I know by name, only; of the ones I have heard,  I do like the Hawkwind album, somewhat; Floating by Eloy did not jive with me; the Greenslade album I have heard a bit and like it. Like the Greenslade album, I have heard Focus -Hamburger Concerto a little, and like it, though I am more familiar with their previous albums Moving Waves and Focus 3 (both of which I dig) The Barclay James Harvest album is something I will check out.....

Tangerine Dream's Phaedra is the standout for me, although I like Dzyan's and Froese's very much too as well as others like Galactic Explorers and Terje Rypdal, and I like the Triumvirat. Not keen on that PFM; love PFM's original early Italian albums.

My top 20 at AP: https://awesomeprog.com/release-polls/pa/aoty-1974/users/Logan If you get the chance, love to see more lists by people there through the years. I'm working on the early 60s now.

1. Robert Wyatt - Rock Bottom
2. Peter Hammill - The Silent Corner And The Empty Stage
3. Tangerine Dream - Phaedra
4. Gong - Radio Gnome Invisible Vol. 3 - You
5. Area - Caution Radiation Area
6. Janko Nilovic - Rythmes contemporains [AP Prog]
7. Cos - Postaeolian Train Robbery
8. Yatha Sidhra - A Meditation Mass
9. Faust - Faust IV [AP Prog]
10. Hatfield and the North - Hatfield and the North
11. Bobby Hutcherson - Cirrus [AP Prog-Adj]
12. King Crimson - Red
13. Peter Hammill - In Camera
14. Cluster - Zuckerzeit

17. Harmonia - Musik Von
18. Julian Priester - Love, Love
19. Magma - Köhntarkösz
20. Zao - Osiris

hey, Greg, that is neat; Phaedra is my favorite album by Tangerine Dream...what a great record....and glad you like the others you mentioned, and thanks for the link to Awesome Prog.....
