I love the Fish era... To me, CLUTCHING is the best album made by Marillion and in some way, the peak of the 80's neo prog... with Hoggarth, I choose BRAVE and AFRAID OF SUN LIGHT but I keep my vote for CLUTCHING and specially for the Fish era...

I prefer the Steve Hogarth era stuff, and i've said it before but will say it one more time for any non-anoraks

BRAVE is the best Marillion album EVER!!!.....

I never cared much for Fish; either the singer or the food. Hogarth` singing style is much easier on my ears.

For me, Brave is the ultimate Marillion album. The story matter, Thank God, is selfless. It`s not about an aging, self-absorbed rock and roller complaining about how tough the music business(Roger Waters, anyone, but rather a heart wrenching story about a teenage girl.

I say CLUTCHING AT STRAWS, with FUGAZI a close second.  These albums are so good...

Did I say MC was prog?   I just said it was candidate for the best Marillion album  .

But if you INSIST...

MC is actually prog, and very good prog too

MC =

(Wow, I find myself defending MC, while Marillion's not even one of my favourite bands  )

Ah, but the question is favorite marillion lp...not favorite Marillion prog lp. Personally I think much of it is prog minus Kayleigh, and Lavender.  How can one hear Bitter Suite, Hearts Of Lothian and Blind Curve and say they're not progressive or at least neo-progressive?

I love all the Marillion albums, more or less. For me the only disappointments are Holidays in Eden (too commercial) and Radiation (the quality of the song writing dropped on that one). Personally I find Script to be the least favourite of Fish-era, but it's still good. Misplaced Childhood will always remain my favourite Marillion album, because all the potential of the band crystallized on it. I'm also a big admirer of Fugazi and some Hogarth-era albums, such as Seasons End, Afraid of Sunlight, This Strange Engine, marillion.com and Marbles, even though they lack the strength of Fish-era efforts. Marillion made the best albums of the 80's!

I agree. I like Script more, but voted (bit strategic) for Fugazi, since it deserves a better place than only 3 votes.

my introduction to marillion was "misplaced childhood", which instantly blew my away on the first listen. i also like "seasons end" from hogarth era. "script...", however, is still the best marillion album for me.
i don't think anybody steals anything; all of us borrow.

Misplaced Childhood or Clutching at Straws  are Marillions known true gems , close following are Script For A jesters tear (featured Mick pointer on drums who is half the drummer mosley is, though later Hogarth Marillion under uses Ian Mosley`s talents I feel)  Brave is also very good (though I hate to admit it)   Fish era was great ..some people prefer hogarth but for me its Fish all the way he was much more expressive and charismatic Hogarth is kinda boring , I was very devastated when Fish left marillion !
