The Aerosol Grey Machine has been the unanimous vote, but, and feel free to call me a fool, for me it's Fool's Mate, mate. Peter Hammill is so great for me whether releasing material under his own name or under/with Van der Graaf Generator.

Same here. Fool's Mate was all the shorter songs which were written (and played) by VDGG in the Aerosol period and before with Judge Smith. That PH wanted to capture those youthful moments before the spirit of the time dissolved and with so much warmth and atmosphere is much down to the encouragement of Tony Stratton-Smith whose tutelage and genuine belief in and love of the first batch of bands and artists in the Charisma stable. These songs could have been lost entirely.

VDGG in this poll and in the second and third polls too, where H to He is the only one for me. Smile

VDGG, but Fool's Mate is exquisite

I think... For seconds I would go with The Least We Can Do Is Wave to Each Other over Chameleon in the Shadow of the Night. For thirds I would go with The Silent Corner and the Empty Stage over H to He Who Am the Only One. For fourths, I would go with Pawn Hearts over In Camera. But not easy as I love all of those releases.
