Yes, I was surprised too. I thought it was Plain as Virginia that I'd be only one to rate Avalon as being Roxy Music's best album. Overall Poll Results First Album:- 1. Roxy Music (12) 2. Brian Eno - Here Come the Warm Jets (9) 3. Phil Manzanera - Diamond Head (5) Second Album:- 1. Roxy Music - For Your Pleasure (14) 2. Brian Eno - Taking Tiger Mountain (4) Third Album:- 1. Brian Eno - Another Green World (10) 2. Roxy Music - Stranded (8) 3. John Wetton - Battle Lines (5) Fourth Album:- 1. Roxy Music - Country Life (7) 2. Brian Eno - Discreet Music (5) Fifth Album:- 1. Brian Eno - Before and After Science (10) 2. Roxy Music - Siren (3) 2. John Wetton - Arkangel (3) Sixth Album:- 1. Bryan Ferry - Boys and Girls (5) 2. Roxy Music - Manifesto (3) Seventh Album:- 1. Roxy Music - Flesh + Blood (7) Eighth Album:- 1. Roxy Music - Avalon (12) Thanks to everyone who took part in the voting. |

'Avalon' seems to be the most popular Roxy Music album?

^ I think Yes and Genesis would be great shouts and popular polls too!
In fact, now I think about it - they were the obvious answer. D'oh! |

How about YES or Genesis? The individual members of those two bands had some pretty impressive solo debuts. On the subject of The Beatles, I prefer George Harrison's All Things Must Pass over all of The Beatles albums, although he had two really bizarre albums that came before that classic album.

That's a very difficult question.
I can't think of any bands who had a lead singer who had such a successful band/solo career as Roxy Music/Bryan Ferry, and some great albums by its other members/associates. The only one I can think of is The Beatles, although their solo careers didn't properly start until the band split up, and I don't think Ringo Starr's albums would get many votes in a poll. I love some of Wings albums. I hope somebody else can come up with some decent/appropriate suggestions though.

Thanks. It's been really interesting (in a Steve Davis kind of way) seeing the results of these polls when Roxy Music haven't always been the obvious winner, and having completed this series of Proxy Music polls, are there any more of these kind of polls you'd like to see with albums by bands up against solo albums by the individual members of the same band? Could this be the long-lost 'Avalon' alternative cover.

My pleasure! I'll have to leave any future Swans and The Residents polls in Logan's capable hands as I'm not a fan of either band - To Be Kind - and besides, I don't think I could bear listening to all of the Swans and The Residents many albums. Life is too short for that. Sorry to extinguish The Ghost of Hope.

I much prefer The Plateaux of Mirror to Music for Airports, but Avalon is great to. Maybe the latter for nostalgic reasons.
