I wonder why Gentle Giant is on that list... Even though just a 10% have voted for them as the band that should not be here, just the fact they appear on that list, makes me think that this could be a joke...
I know Queen and Deep Purple are not 100% progressive. The first one, although being a hard rock band, were influenced by prog and the second one developed the prog style on their early years, before taking a different direction...
I think most people voted for Nightwish because the band is too over-rated and because of all their commercial success in Europe. Besides, their sound is more power metal than any other thing, and cannot be compared with such classics as Deep Purple and Queen... So Nightwish becomes the scapegoat and carries all the burden...

But using that logic, we should exclude Genesis for "I Can't Dance" and "Invisible Touch".
|
I see your point , but there is not any album by Queen which is comparable with Foxtrot. |
I don't know what everyone else thinks but I believe that the album Flash Gordon by Queen is pretty damn prog.

Nightwish not in the Archives - get a grip!!!!!!
All mentioned in the poll should be in the Archives and are by their various prog merits.

"The poll said "which should not be here." I took this to mean "which of this group does not belong?" Of course I voted for Gentle Giant -- they were only prog band on the list. The others are hard rock. And in Queen and Nightwish's case, sh!tty hard rock."

Nightwish is a Symphonic Pop Metal band, no clue why they'd be here.
I love Deep Purple, but they're just not Prog.
Queen started off prog, then went elsewhere. I still love 'em tho.
Gentle Giant... you can't get more prog than those guys, for better or worse.
(OK, maybe VDGG is equally prog)

Thank you. Could not have said it better myself!

Also agree, maybe Queen could be Prog related (If such a hybrid sub-genre exists) but Deep Purple is an awesome Hard Rock band with incredible keyboards and Nightwish is Goth, black or Heavy Metal, nothing else, none of the last two mentioned is even related with Prog.
The question is who can be so insane to believe Gentle Giant is not a Prog' band?

I thought this was going to be a hard choice. (the first two bands i saw were queen and nightwish), but after looking more seriously at the poll, i vote Deep Purple. Deep Purple is a hard rock band, not anything else. Blackmore later prooved to be a great guitarist (for what he does), but Deep Purple does not have any crucial progressive elements.
