I've noticed for a while (a few years at least) that modern prog often has metal in it without being prog metal. One of the first albums to really make that a thing was Porcupine Tree's In Absentia but I could also point to earlier examples.

Really new prog-rock? This is a live performance of the fourth song off young English musician Dominic Sanderson's debut album titled "Impermanence," which is, in my opinion, the album of the year 2023

It's quite amazing how much you can avoid nostalgy.

Yes, contemporary prog does lean more towards metal.
Another thing I've noticed about contemporary prog is the use of more striking rhythmic elements. One album in particular that I have that seems to revel in this sort of thing is Bubblemath - Edit Peptide.

No, I know how to behave in the restaurant now, I don't tear at the meat with my hands. If I've become a man of the world somehow, that's not necessarily to say I'm a worldly man.

I'd say, one of the new more general characteristics in Progressive Rock is incorporating elements from Metal.

I think groups like black midi, The Mars Volta, Dear Hunter, Coheed & Cambria, King Gizzard, and Other By No One have been creating some truly stellar works of progressive rock art, and truly be refining what it means to be prog for me. If I would recommend some albums, check out Hellfire by black midi, Deloused by The Mars Volta, Hinterland by Wobbler, Stranger Head Prevails by Thank You Scientist, (Mankind) The Crafty Ape by Crippled Black Phoenix, Night by Gazpacho, and ...And The Glass Handed Kites by Mew. Those albums really rock!

If the information is in "some threads", then I would say it's definitely not easy to find.

So far our strategy has been to make music we like, and what we like is prog rock.

There are lots of them, from Agusa to Riverside to the Mars Volta to black midi.
I think you can find them pretty easily on some of the threads on this website.
