I've grown up with Queen, it's been one of my favourite bands for years, and one of the things that struck me, apart from the band's extraordinary music, was that both May and Taylor had space, let's say ceded by Mercury, to sing with some frequency. May's almost whispery register was ideal for ballads, and Taylor's was more aggressive and intense. I love Taylor's playing on "I'm Love with my Car" and "More of That Jazz", and also on his little-known debut solo album "Fun in Space", with songs like the upbeat "No Violins" and "Let's Get Crazy", or the mellow "Laugh Or Cry".

Now, for the lead singer of Queen I find it hard to visualise him, because the presence of Mercury's almighty voice is the hallmark of the band like no other, and I think the places Freddie could go vocally were often unattainable for most mortals, including Taylor.

But it does seem to me, to get to the point, that he would have been a perfectly successful singer in any rock band of the 70s.

Im Just thinking crazy thoughts,Queen is blessed with the most gifted vocalist of all time. Freddy Mercury is Freddy. The singer whom any band would dream to have, super vercitile, range, raw, pretty, clear, he have all the timbres.

Yet i have a dangerous thought, had never Freddy been the voice in Queen. Roger Taylor, the skinsmasher, the stikktwirler, drummer extrodinare of majestic powers, had blessed power in another area. Hes vocals.

I dare to say he could carrie any rock band in the 70s alone on hes voice. He sang atleast one song pr album. I like hes voice as much as i like Daltry, Plant, Gilian, Don Henley.

Not only is he an underrated vocalist, hes one of the best voices nobody knows or thinks about.
