A bit of both: yes, I like it very much. These (well prepared) improvisations make their more experimental approach come forward and I have always enjoyed this album, not in the least because of the excellent musicians. On the other hand, the 90s were also a period when I started to turn my back to prog a bit; I was not very convinced by the turns it took (heavy prog/prog metal) or by the sheer unimaginative music that was coming out under the prog umbrella, so I started to explore much more jazz (rock) and contemporary music at that time. Added to that, what I said above: I'm not that much of a live album listener, I don't care much about live albums of bands that I haven't seen live myself, mostly. I like this "looser" kind of King Crimson: it is more experimental and at the same time more spontaneous. There's a good flow to it, to my ears, a bit like those four albums of The ProjeKcts that came out in one box set; I really love all of these albums. And, of course, I don't have to explain to you that that 2.77 is an average... My rating is not in there (I don't rate), but otherwise it would be at 3.50, at least.

That's a surprising choice given it's currently rated at 2.77 (you have to work hard to find any lower rated KC album). I don't think it's bad but best live album of the decade is quite something! Do you love it that much, or couldn't you just think of many 90s live albums? I like to see it as a choice here even though it isn't mine. Probably will revisit.

^ Yeah, Cisnienie was a great discovery for me. I do prefer Cardiacs live when they had William D. Drake (what a treasure he is!) and Sarah Smith. With Swans, I have heard three live albums, Omniscience (1992), it's best known Swans Are Dead (1998) and Deliquescence (2017). I think Deliquescence is worth hearing even for its version of "The Knot" alone, imo. Well it it is almost 46 minutes long.

^ I know you love the Cisnienie album, too! Cardiacs Live is pretty much as good as All That Glitters, I agree with you there. I must admit I haven't yet delved into the Swans live albums; I see myself as a big live album lover but I realise that from the 2000s I often tend to watch live videos and occasionally buy concert films, but not so many live albums anymore.

Thanks all.
^^ I also have Brass Album listed, and while All that Glitters is my favourite Cardiacs live album, I'm listing another because I really like Swans' Omniscience, and I wanted Portishead in before for the 90s. I considered that Kraan too. I prepared most of this yesterday. I could not decide on one for the 2000s ({I'm not a huge live album listener) and I found the Laura album and liked it. 1970s: Tangerine Dream - Ricochet (1975) 1980s: Cardiacs - Cardiacs Live (1988) 1990s: Swans - Omniscience (1992) 2000s: Laura - (Re)capitulate (2007) 2010s: Susanne Sundfør - Music for People in Trouble: Live from the Barbican (2019) 2020s: Ciśnienie / Lód 9 - Brass Album (2020) |

I don't think I have a very large collection of live releases, so I'm kind of winging it here. Even so, it's kind of hard just picking one per decade as there are many great ones, especially from the 1970s.
1960s: Pink Floyd - Ummagumma live disc 1970s: Genesis - Seconds Out 1980s: Peter Gabriel - Plays Live 1990s: Porcupine Tree - Coma Divine 2000s: King Crimson - EleKtriK 2010s: Van der Graaf Generator - Merlin Atmos 2020s: Nick Mason's Saucerful of Secrets - Live at the Roundhouse I'm going to Mars to look at the potatoes and take pictures of my nose.

I don't have many favourites when it comes to live albums. However, I really enjoy these: Pink Floyd - Ummagumma (1st disc) Allman Brothers Band - At the Filmore Deep Purple - Made in Japan Bobby McFerrin - The Voice Eric Clapton - Unplugged After the 90's: No idea. I hardly ever listen to them.

1960's - The Nice - Five Bridges Suite ( a bit of a cheat as it was released in 1970 but the perfomance was recorded at Fairfield Hall in 1969. I've got nothing else to offer from this decade)
1970's - ELP - Welcome Back My Friends.. (OMG this band were just too good and this is their peak) 1980's - Rush - Exit Stage Left (basically acted for me as a compilation for a long time) 1990's - Rush - Different Stages (then this came along!) 2000's - Par Lindh Project - Live In Iceland 2010's - Steven Wilson - You Get All You Deserve 2020's - Big Big Train - Live At The Empire
