Paul's Ultimate YES: 8th album poll reminded me to revive this poll from a while back!

Yes is my all-time favorite band. Rush is number 3. Xanadu is my favorite Rush track ( and a legit Prog classic) and A Farewell to Kings just nips out Hemispheres and Moving Pictures as my favorite Rush album. But, Awaken is truly special and in my opinion Yes's second greatest musical piece ( Close to the Edge is first).
So, Just barely Going for the One over A Farewell to Kings. Thinking about it the Yes Album, Fragile, Close to the Edge, Relayer and GFTO rank ahead of any Rush album. However, Rush's run from Farewell to Kings to Moving Pictures would come next before we get to Tales and Drama if I was ranking Yes vs Rush albums. After Tales and Drama, there would be a long run of Rush albums before we would get to another Yes album, however. |

Yes, easily. Awaken can't easily be beaten.

I had to choose A Farewell to Kings, as it is in my top 2 faves from the Canadian boys, and Going For the One is amongst my least liked of the British guys.
I generally like Yes much more though than Rush. Early Rush was big in my teens, but all of Yes is big in my later years. Edited by Boojieboy - January 28 2023 at 16:25 |

^^ thanks Cristi... I think we have a comedian in our midst...
I do like it when polls are very tightly contested such as this; it makes us all think very carefully. It's also good to see in Rick's 1973 polls, that pretty well every album has scored points. I'll have to get and listen to some of the albums unknown to me.. Anyway regrettably, I don't think Hemispheres v Tormato would be half as close..

It's good to see there's lots of love for Xanadu here.

Going for the One, though Xanadu is in my top 10 of individual prog tracks.

Interesting as Yes were on the way down and Rush on the way up yet both are certainly comparable. Awaken and Xanadu are both superb original epics. I am a sucker for pipe organ on any rock track so Parallels is wonderful to my ears. Both are great albums but I go with A Farewell To Kings just.

I love Rush but GFTO takes it because of "Parallels" and "Awaken." It's one of Yes' best albums.

Farewell To Kings here. If we were judging it on the songs themselves then the Yes would win hands down. However Going For The One is badly produced in the studio. All the songs on it sound better played live including Turn of the Century and Awaken.
