He's got a curious unibrow going there. Like little canals splitting it up into little islands.

Ah yes, I remember the wit and wisdom of Eric Cantona:- "When seagulls follow the trawler, it's because they know sardines will be thrown into the sea." |

Of the Three, Cruyff but my all-time stud is Eric Cantona , his will to win is unparalleled. And for a Frenchman in England ? Amaaaaazing!

Maradona, despite that "hand of god" thing and a sad life outside the field afterwards. But his slaloms between the opponents are pure magic. I don' remember Cruyff all that much (I was in Canada during most of his playing career), but I do remember the chain-smoking coach in Barcelona.

I prefer Gary Lineker, as he's a more orthodox player, although there's no reason why his religion should come into it.

I remember the 1970 WC, but the 1974 one really stuck in my mind because of Cruyff. He was a genius and I recall well how pretty much everyone in the UK wanted The Netherlands to beat West Germany in the final. Maradonna had flashes of genius but Cruyff was the all round player. I'm not sure why Gascoigne is in this list, Zidane would have been a better choice.

Hi,
Kinda hard to make a good decision ... of all three, they were a part of the start of television, not the day of the television ruling the game, and as such, you don't see as much of what they did as we can these days, with Messi, Mbappe, and even that number 7. But Maradona, like Pele just a wee bit before him, were known to be able to run the whole field and get around every player and then even score. it's kinda sad that he is thought of as a cheat, when the best part of his game was his ability to be in the right place to be able to do something, and score. All the greats did that and then some! The only sad thing, is that Maradona was not a good passer, and as he got older, he became like that number 7 ... kinda waiting for the ball to show up so they could do one thing or two ... a bit too late. Pele, however, was a very good passer and worked a line (Coutinho, Pele and Pepe) that were outstanding passers and they helped each other tremendously. But it's really hard to argue against Cruyff, specially since he ended up coaching and did just about as well ... and added to the game. The others, like the way we look at Messi, 7 and Mbappe ... all look like freaks on the field, and I doubt they will make good coaches later on, though Messi is possibly a good candidate as he has an outstanding feel for passing ... but only is he can teach that ... which might be too difficult to "find" when so much of it was instinctive and not a mental exercise.

I could only watch Gascoigne "live". Seen lots of videos of the other two, of course. I guess I'll go with Cruyff.

I'll vote for Cruyff as well even though Maradona clearly deserves votes. I did appreciate Gascoigne as a player but this is probably not quite the right league for him here. In Germany we had Matthaeus, who was stunning on the pitch but has somewhat damaged his reputation by the stuff that comes out of his mouth all the time. Non-Germans don't know about most of that so could probably appreciate him better.

This is a wierd one. And one that is not all based on facts, but also fealings.
In most statistics in football Maradona is nr 2 or to some nr 1. According to many factors and parameters. I was first going to just have Maradona and Gascoigne. But i added Cruyff for the spice as he is often regarded as between 3 or 6. This one is based on, what they achived, did they reach their top. They all spiced upp the football game. They were unorthodox, they changed the game. But Gascoigne is the most diamomd in a rough player that there ever has been. An anamoly. Whos personality overshadows what a tallent and a blissfull player he was. Hes if he had a different projectory could have been a top 10 in the game or top 15. He was that good and a game changer. And i will admit would put him benieth Diego and Johan. But i will always hint at and remind people about Paul Gazza Gascoigne. Though despiccable later on. Ass i say this is a wierd one Edited by Icarium - December 15 2022 at 15:19 |
