I am around. Turtle pace for me. Listening has been slow going. I have gone through about half of the short tunes. Will try to finish this week and vote.

Hmm yeah. As always hard to choose. These are my voting candidates for the short songs: Ou, Tredici Bacci, Fischer-Z, Buster, Lamomali, Band Maid, John Cale. That's seven, I'm afraid. The long songs: Hildur Guđnadóttir, Arthur Hnatek Trio, Dongyang Gozupa. The best rule to put some order into this is to vote for one per participant. That leaves me with Ou (although I really loved Tredici Bacci when relistening), Buster, and John Cale for the short songs, and Arthur Hnatek's trio for the long ones. Now I have to decide for Kees & George between Fischer-Z & Dongyang Gozupa or Hildur Guđnadóttir & Band Maid. Still a hard one. I think I just about prefer the first pair of these.

During the week I don't have the right listening facilities nor really the time at hand, so I come to this mainly in the weekends... So, today I listened to the songs/tracks again and I stick with my comments, mostly. My choices are, for the short songs: - Ou - La Mentita - Public Service Broadcasting - Go! - Buster - Lord Of The Rings - John Cale - Venus In Furs Even four votes appears not enough, because I actually also wanted to vote for Lamomali - Manitoumani... My choices for the long songs:
- Arthur Hnatek Trio: Monotonous - Dongyang Gozupa - Cycle (in stiff competition with The Little River Band) |

Probably too many threads were brought up in the meantime; I hadn't seen this on the Latest Posts list for quite a while.

Well, in fact it does not respect the rules. But, ok. I'll combine n. 1 and n.3 in the short songs, and I'll put n. 2 in the long songs. |

I don't really think my selection match up to the time restrictions you proposed, but it is what it is. My three are... 1 - BUSKER - Lord Of The Rings (Listed on PA) a short one (2:59 Min) 2 - Grand Funk - Inside Looking Out (Not Listed on PA) A Long One (12:53 min) 3 - Lee Michaels - Hold on to Freedom (Not Listed on PA) A Med/Long One (10:55 min) |

@Christian Tredici Bacci (mispronounced name: Tredici Baci is the correct form) is a very interesting Italian-American group, while Ou, whom I listen to on spotify, I don't know if they are Italian. @Mila, have you chosen your trio?

@Someone-else
John Cale re-proposes a Velvet Underground classic arranged very well (splendid sound of electric viola and electric guitar), candidate, De Kast: sweet, romantic melodic song, oh how nice to be young! Little River Band: never heard of them, I thought they were from California, what nice relaxing music! Candidate. |

mathman0806 (George)
Cheap Trick: despite its fame, I have practically never listened to this band. Good melodic pop-rock with hard-sounding guitars. I must say that the drummer has the face of an intellectual. Band-Maid: Oh, dear George, fantastic heavy metal song, but especially I could fall in love with the singer here, it hurts me to see women like this, it gives me erotic imaginations... (also the guitarist, in that dress... ) Candidate DG: although the percussionist doesn't have the charm of the previous girls, her technique is remarkable: this instrumental piece has some wonderful moments, even if it doesn't seem to me to be well blended as sound and composition. However, another candidate |

@JD
JD gives us two pieces of 'classic' rock that I already knew, the first, by Joe Jackson, doesn't convince me: the a cappella singing fails to give us the rhythm and ramshackle intonation of the original studio song, The second is the Long piece: The GF's Jam has a very interesting instrumental interlude in the second part of the song, a mixture of boogie and country, which makes me clearly prefer it to Lee Michaels': if you choose this song, it is a candidate for my vote. I prefer Busker's song to Joe Jackson's, it has a nice rhythm and a very charming organ sound. |

@Lorenzo, thanks for the comments! Btw. there is no e-guitar in the African track, at
least not as a lead instrument. It is an amplified acoustic guitar and a kora,
a stringed instrument used extensively in West Africa. Did you mix things up or do you rather need a pair of new headphones or glasses? The video is of top quality.

[QUOTE=Mila-13]
Lamomali: Manitoumani Lamomali is a project by French rock musician Matthieu Chedid in collaboration with various Malian artists, esp. singer-songwriter Fatoumata Diawara, the great kora player Toumani Diabaté and his son Sidiki Diabaté.- There is a longer version of the same song, but I prefer this one, esp. the video. Max Raabe & Palast Orchester: Küssen kann man nicht alleine M.R. is a German musician and band leader. His music is strongly inspired by German-language Schlager and chansons from the 1920s and 1930s, accompanied by humorous and witty lyrics. The title of this song translates to 'You Cannot Kiss by Yourself'. Here Raabe is joined by German singer Namika. English Lyrics Sara Renar: Jesen S.R. is a singer-songwriter from Zagreb, Croatia. Her music style can be described as experimental/indie/pop mixing subtle melodies with electronic and theatrical elements. English song title: Autumn/Fall. __________________________________ I might replace the first song with this one:. Arthur Hnatek Trio: Monotonous A.H. is a young emerging Swiss jazz musician. He has performed at La Cigale (Paris), Berghain Kantine in Berlin or Montreux Jazz Festival to name just a few.- The video was filmed during a sunrise concert at Les Aubes festival in Geneva (July 2020).- This is a calm, meditative piece that fits nicely the atmosphere of the venue, located on the shore of Lake Geneva.- The title of the piece is somewhat misleading by the way. _________________________ p.s. I'm on a business trip atm so I barely had time to look for songs, esp. because three are required this time, also in different lengths. I realise that I am not the only person here who had some difficulties with this :P -------- MILA!!! Lamomali: African song, sung in French, works on the repetition of sounds and rhythm progression, with an electric guitar solo that makes it more European. It does not excite me. But I recognise that for some it can be enthralling. MR & PO: German Cabaret? Almost vaudeville, nice, shame the orchestral arrangement is too much in the background. In my opinion the weakest piece in this selection. Sara Renar: these videos distract me from the music! Couldn't the singer wear a burka? I'd be more careful!!! Cute atmospheric song, with a nice chorus. My personal favourite. AH Trio: abstract and very dissonant avant-garde jazz, a bit monotonous for my taste (lots of drums, the melody isnt developed), but we are talking about a quality track, with ambition, it's a candidate for the Grand Prix de la Critique (which it competes with Kees' piece).
