Topic: The best of Scorsese/De Niro Posted: October 21 2005 at 09:57 |
Do you know, I've not seen Goodfellas. Now isn't that an admission for a self-confessed film buff to make.

"Mean Streets" is my favourite from those films, but DeNiro is not very much on focus of that one, it's more Harvey Keitel's show! "New York New York" is also great one, a real misunderstood gem!

Overall, I had to go with Goodfellas - one of the best mob films ever made; it was a narrow win though, as I recently saw Casino again - I love his character there, nice blend of vunerability and violence... Of course, Pesci superb in both - same character, but superb.
How about the great film Scorcese never made with De Niro? Don't forget he wanted De Niro to play Bill The Butcher in Gangs Of New York - now how would that have changed the film's dynamic?

I'd have to go with "Raging Bull." My second choice would be "King of Comedy", DeNiro plays that lunatic comedian's role so well, that really goes to show his versatility.

Goodfellas - it doesn't get much better than that.

Joe Pesci is a wonderful actor... I remember the first time I saw GoodFellas, I almost died laughing of his character...
"Oklahoma kid. That's me. I'm the Oklahoma kid. You fickin' varmint. Dance. Dance. YAHOO, YOU MOTHERF*CKER"
In Casino he is also wonderful, unforgettable...

Really hard choice for me, i love everything these two guys have done togethor. I'm going to vote for Casino though. Taxi Driver will always be a classic, Raging Bull was inspiring, GoodFellas was downright incredible, but Casino is a movie that is always going to have a very special place with me. I thought the chemistry between De Niro and Pesce was the best it ever was. It was also nice to see some more classic actors like Allan King, Frank Vincent, and the then up and coming Kevin Pollack.

Hard f**king choice, but I ended up going with Taxi Driver, though Goodfellas and Raging Bull are very very close.

Ok, first of all, this is one of the best (probably THE best)
actor/director partnership in the american cinema. Robert De Niro is
one of the very f**kin actors in all times (he shouldn't waste his
talent doing crap like Meet The Parents), and Martin Scorsese is a
great 'visual stylist', wonderful director (when he wants). Choose just
one movie is very difficult, but maybe my favorite is "GoodFellas".
