Welcome! If you're into King Gizzard's more repetitive psychedelic stuff, you might want to check out Neu! and Can.

And for psych/space stuff I'd highly recommend Hawkwind's first five studio alums, plus the live double 'Space Ritual'.

Welcome to the forums, and pleased to see another Floyd fan here - other bands to suggest that in my opinion might appeal to you would include Genesis (already mentioned), Yes, ELP, Curved Air, Camel, Caravan, Santana, and Focus (basically the bands that I started with on my journey into prog). [Also Jethro Tull, King Crimson, Mike Oldfield, and Renaissance.]

Welcome, Andrew! There’s definitely a lot of prog out there - far more than will ever be included here. But PA is a great place to get yourself started, and learn about what others understand to be prog, which will help you develop your own ideas about what is prog. What is or isn’t prog is quite subjective, and you’ll find a lot of arguments in these forums because of disagreements about that. I say, just listen to what makes you happy - but, for sure, there is a heck of a lot of stuff in PA that can make you happy.

Welcome! Yep... Prog is a vast, if not endless, ocean. Taking the time, and proceeding (progressing?) at a reasonable pace is a wise way and fruitful means for keeping the interest for a lifetime. Hope you'll have a good time here!

hello! over these past few weeks ive taken an interest in prog music. im not entirely new to prog however, ive (almost) listened to the entirety of pink floyds discography and have listened to a few albums by some other bands (rush, genesis, King Gizzard and the Lizard wizard (ive listened to the whole of king gizzards discography lol) ).
ive went on a sort of pilgrimage going through the top 100 albums of all time list here on prog archives and i think i can safely say that i definitely have a love for prog! it took me a while to get into prog but i have definitely started to lighten up to prog and im glad i did. ive never really taken much of an interest in an entire genre of music before and im glad that prog is the first genre of music ive ever taken a larger interest in. i will admit it does get overwhelming considering the amount of artists and sub-genres. so im just slowly taking my time with everything. and sometimes i get surprised when i see a band or an artist that i didnt even know was considered to be prog! its all been quite an eye opening and exciting journey that im gonna continue. |
