I'm unconvinced that he's the right fit for Spock's Beard. I find their output since he joined the band to be very uneven. I love Brief Nocturnes but the subsequent releases are very hit or miss for me. I absolutely despise the song Submerged and truly hope that's not the kind of Ted Leonard song that makes its way in SB music. I know it's only one song but...

I do like that their music has successfully moved beyond Neal Morse but it's been very much a roller coaster ride since Snow.

For me, the best thing these days about SB when it comes to songwriting is John Boegehold. His stuff is really good and tend to be the songs I like the best.

I love this record, was just playing it the other day. I 100% believe the Ted era is far and away the best in the bands history, though I really like X, The Light, V and snow Live. For me Brief Nocturnes and The Oblivion Particle are just better albums on all fronts. Ted Leonard is able to portray such a sense of personality, but at its core, the music and songwriting is just so well executed and performed. I wish Jimmy was still in the band, if Nicks back that’s great too, but they had one powerhouse of a lineup.

I've heard it enough times now to rate it a flawless masterpiece. Can't work out why it isn't more highly rated. I could go into detail but might leave it for a full on review here. Till listening to it I would have rated "V" the best Spock's Beard album and Beware of Darkness a close second. Now I rank it not only the best Spock's Beard album but up there with the best of the best albums of Genesis, Yes and Pink Floyd.
