A good idea related to the death of Penderecki is to strenghten his legacy through creating really progressive prog. So, don't let the proggyists only move backwards to the 70s, XIXth century and earlier calssical music or jazz but to create the music and interpret it in a new, strange way. XXth century brought dissipation of musical language in classical music and new ways are also possible in the movement of prog-rock. Not 70s but going forward in the direction of Penderecki, first things created by Górecki, Stockhausen, Webern, Schonberg, or even using the forms of language of Stravinsky, Shostakovich or Mahler, are needed. Besides, the world music and experimentation done by such bands as Talking Heads (untypical music and untypical texts), Magazine or alt-prog synthesis called new prog exercised by Radiohead, Muse, Mars Volta, Tool and even Faith No More (Angel Dust) or Gorillaz, or Justice in electronic music, is a direction which should be really progressive if it's not repeated but developed further and evolving ...

Sad news to read (although I must confess I didn't realize he was still alive as of last week Embarrassed). One of the first modern classical guys I explored.

Hi,

I think, that as time goes by, we will get/have a wider acceptance of the value of a lot of these folks and the work they did ... I'm not sure he is considered as important today, but dad had in his record collection, St. Luke Passion, Polish Requiem, and Anaklasis (not sure that was the title) and later I wanted to get a record of The Devils of Loudun ... which of course was the story that got Ken Russell to make his best film (The Devils) which had been taken from the studies and research by Aldous Huxley's book which had been written in 1952.

At that time, I was into a lot of rock music, and specially the experimental, the wild and the long cuts (late 60's early 70's) so I probably did not pay as much attention as I did to others, around the time, but by then, a lot of other music for me, was better and spoke for my generation a lot better.

I can only hope that it teaches many of us to learn to have more acceptance to other music works that also deserve the recognition and our ears ...
Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

I quite like what I’ve heard from him. Any recommendations as to what to buy?

Dig me...But don't...Bury me
I'm running still, I shall until, one day, I hope that I'll arrive
Warning: Listening to jazz excessively can cause a laxative effect.
