Topic: Prog band = Which football team? Posted: October 13 2005 at 15:55 |
And btw I hate it that everytime we Europeans discuss soccer here some American has to claim superiority of NFL - that's just pointless.

I bet if there was a game between contemporary English Prog Team (their best forward is Steve Wilson) and Polish Prog Team the score would be better than yesterday England - Poland game (at least it should be a draw, only if the English were lucky).
Polish Prog bands are better than Polish soccer clubs.

Yes are the only band with enough members past and present to actually field a football (soccer) team.
Genesis would get thrashed as they keep getting players sent off...then there were three....

Pink Floyd and YES = Real Madrid, Manchester, Dallas Cowboys, NY Yankees, LA Lakers, MILAN AC (Too much attention and not necesarily the best)
Genesis, Gentle Giant, Jethro Tull, Crimson, ELP = Barcelona, Arsenal, 49ers (Less publicity, less dogmas around but always surprising with overlooked quality)

haha i think Dream Theatre would be more like the united states soccer/football league where its exciting for awhile but then you realize that its a watered down version of the real thing like european football/soccer or better prog music.

Tonight my favorite club just lost in the UEFA cup.
I must say they played like Boyzone trying to play Close to the Edge.

Sure
we can, I just don`t like this sport and the fact I don`t like it
doesn`t mean everybody has to agree with me or stop playing NFL

| Well Forest are having an absolute 'Love Beach' of a season so far!

Given Alex Lifeson's recent punch up with the plods, perhaps Rush are the prog Wimbledon.
| Maybe Phil Collins was the prog Vinnie Jones. A similar amount of hair and often managed to lower the tone with his uncomplicated style.

If prog rock is Wimledon(i mean the tennis tournament) then DT would be Maria Sharapova or Daniela Hantuchova

Dream Theater? Wimbledon - occasionally managed to mix it with the established big boys but lacking in subtlety.

On another thread Richardh said that if prog bands could be football teams ELP would be Arsenal.
Can't see it myself, but it set me thinking. Who would be Chelsea? I think maybe Pink Floyd - made shedloads of money and came from more advantaged backgrounds than much of the competition. Mind you that might be Genesis too.
Dream Theater? Wimbledon - occasionally managed to mix it with the established big boys but lacking in subtlety.
I think ELP is Nottingham Forest - once an international giant but a calamatous fall from grace.
Apologies if this thread is a mystery to non-British members, but feel free to include teams from anywhere in the world! |
Wouldn't that mean that Notts Forest have split up and are no longer talking to each other?
Also, Wimbledon are now AFC Wimbledon and are in the Ryman Premier!

But i'd say VdGG are the England cricket team. Both made truimphant come backs in 2005 and both can now rightly claim to be the best in the World.

Cricket?? Is that the game with the horses?
Just kidding, of course I knwo cricket and about 99% of the people actually playing cricket live in England, so it is not really a big suprise that they are the best of the world. But congratulations anyway.
