^^ Thanks for those two Doctor Who clips, Logan. They were hilarious!
![]() Here's a funny clip of the real PM Tony Blair meeting comedienne Catherine Tate playing the part of her chavvy character Lauren Cooper. Her catchphrase is "Am I Bothered?" ![]() Edited by Psychedelic Paul - October 30 2019 at 10:33 |

^ I've seen that, very funny. I'm a long-time fan of Doctor Who (well, not the latest series), Tom Baker, and Jon Culshaw.
This I watch with my family most Christmases: I loved Culshaw's prank calls (which included calling various Doctors): Here he is as Tom Baker's Doctor calling Tom Baker:: Edited by Logan - October 30 2019 at 09:16 |

Anyone outside of Great Britain may not know who Doctor Who (Tom Baker) is, but I enjoyed this sketch from impressionist Jon Culshaw, where he attempts to buy a time travel ticket aboard the Eurostar train.

When you spend time in many different countries, you learn quickly that the humor is very different everywhere you go ... and for my tastes, the worst of it all is actually a lot of American humor that still relies on the TV tube for its image and show ... unlike, for example, English humor that has a history of being so intelligent and way up there, that a stage for a sitcom could not hold it! And watch out for those folks that for 20 some years came out of Oxford and those institutions ... they are very good, but way out there, and strong ... and they don't need a TV set to make their point! I don't find Italian humor and better than Spanish humor, or any worse than any German or French humor ... they are all different, and they all have their own history ... the difference in America is that they have no history, and the funniest they can go back for is a couple of Mark Twain stories.

Music is not just for listening ... it is for LIVING ... you got to feel it to know what's it about! Not being told!

Many people seem to think that Germans can't do humour, and what I hate most about this is that many Germans probably for this reason try very hard to demonstrate to the world that this is wrong, with results that I usually don't appreciate. So I have decided to rather not do humour at all, but I don't always succeed. ![]() I can laugh though, so if I find something and this thread is still on my radar, I'll post it.

Nothing on this forum cracks me up more than the contextual humour of moshkito's more bizarre posts. Otherwise it's mostly the more heated historical or political discussions that seem to bring out the best jokes, I'd say.

Its hard to explain, but I love Mort Sahl, Bill Hicks, George Carlin.... Angry humor. Social commentary. Anti-PC. Basically, an original voice with humor, especially one who can take a great examination, diagnosis of the true social ills of society.

I have now moved it to Prog Bands, Artists and Genres Appreciation. It is not a straight-up appreciation topic per se, and sometimes I move topics without altogether being sure which forums they best fit. Like Prog bands, topics can fit various categories (multiple forums) at times. Partially because I'm something of a bum that doesn't like to put in more than half-assed effort, I don't like to get too anal about such things. I'd rather leave that to proctologists, rear admirals, and a pirate with his booty.

Logan, I wasn't sure whether I'd posted my "Scheherazade" topic in the right place or whether it should have been posted in the Prog Bands, Artists and Genres Appreciation forum. I noticed you'd moved my "Dark Side of the Moon" and "From Genesis to Revelation" topics over to there, which were similarly-themed song titles stories.

^ Well, thank you, and I should really complement you on your "Scheherazade" topic which I found wonderful and was meaning to post in, but wanted to find the right words.
I'm glad you appreciated the humour there. A problem I have sometimes found is that when I write or say ultimately absurd things (I don't do it often now, but used to much more), people do sometimes take me totally seriously (both when writing posts and in person). That can be really awkward, and to confuse matters more, sometimes when I say or write seemingly absurd things its completely sincere and genuine. But sometimes I'm just thinking about things I don't understand ... We don't need to know the answers... (to quote from Renaissance). |

Logan, the story of Glam der Graaf Generator is so funny, it was worth telling again on this thread and I recall the story only came about because I didn't know what the letters "GDGG" stood for.

^^ Fair enough, and I was on Napster back in the day, and I do seem to remember that topic. I think SWilson was not too pleased with something I said as well. It's through Napster that I discovered/ first heard Van der Graaf Generator, Gentle Giant, and many others. I didn't download full albums, but I downloaded many songs back then. Later I bought many album that those songs were off. Ethically to me, it wasn't really different from streaming youtube music these days, and it was not illegal by Canadian law to download music off Napster (but it was to share your music).
As for any malaise, not on my part, but my funny bone is feeling a bit limp and needs some tickling. I did rather like this silly story I wrote recently in one of the threads: In 1939 [Glam der Graaf Generator with Peter Glammill] was the opening act for Ham der Graaf Generator (of H to He Who Ham the Only One and Pork Hearts fame) with Porky Hammill and Hugh Bacon. Ham der Graaf Generator is notorious for an incident when one of their props, a huge inflatable pig floating near Battersea Power Station, became unmoored and collided with a Graf Zeppelin carrying important German dignitaries, including Reichsführer Heinrich Hammler, in early September of 1939, which in turn collided with a Lead Zeppelin carrying a Bavarian folk music band (that band had had hits with "Whole Lotta Liebe" and "Over The Hills und Heil Hitler"). Despite the Lead Zeppelin sinking like, well, like a lead balloon, the occupants survived, but were left feeling very dazed and confused. This porcine mishap led to a long and protracted war as well as an epic battle of the bands. Van der Graaf Generator may have been inspired by this historical incident, as well as some other bands perhaps. Edited by Logan - October 27 2019 at 12:31 |

^ What the guy didn't get though is that it was pure self-mockery (a style particularly dear to me), I told him but he wouldn't listen. If the holy record industry decide to exterminate all illegal downloaders, I would be the first on the train since I was quite active during the evil napster days.
Think it was a SWilson thread and he thought I was saying he was a fascist. Remember when the good RIIA were threatening honest families because their 10 years old has downloaded a Madonna tune? Give us $5000 or we will sue you and you will lost everything. Greedy cowards! it was directed at them! Very tricky indeed. ![]() Edited by Barbu - October 23 2019 at 16:30 |

^ You've made me laugh many times as have quite a few here. I once told someone who seemed unfocused in his posts that he should go to concentration camp, and I might have said it once when someone lacked Focus in a Prog poll. South Park has made much the same joke, but I thought of it independently, as I'm sure a great many people have. Picture of Auschwitz plus telling them to go to a concentration camp, even for offensive me, that would be going too far. I would hide such a post.

Made a bad joke, way back when, telling that all illegal music downloaders should be send to concentration camps and post a picture of Auschwitz. One easily offended Christian neo-lover didn't take it at all and asked the admins to delete the junk. They didn't, of course.
Think the poor guy is still pissed off to this day. ![]() |

Logan I Just realized the post about Gentle Giant And Van Der Graaf Generator with the comment "I prefer my GG without the VD" was you. That was a good one.
Also I find your avatar of Sean Connery wearing whatever that is to be both amusing and very disturbing at the same time!
