Yes. Not a prog band, but quite a few prog-adjacent tracks.
I invite you all to revisit Africa. Really complex structure throughout, and a far cry from the four-chord songs that shape the world of Pop/Rock nowadays. |

I love how polarizing this poll is. 🤣 I personally choose not to vote as I don't have a strong opinion.

I voted when the poll was originally around but didn't leave a comment. I would say ''NO''. The comment about Asia doesn't feel quite correct to me. I've seen both Asia and Toto live. Asia on their pre Phoenix comeback tour played stuff like ELP's Fanfare For The Common Man while the debut has out and out prog tracks such as Time and Time Again as well as Wildest Dreams and Sole Survivor. Toto are well embedded in the AOR scene and were incredibly good at it. However the best thing I've ever heard by them was Boz Scaggs Lido Shuffle which they all pretty much played on. Great musicians and I appreciate that a couple of them were at the Keith Emerson tribute concert in the States. If ELP had wanted to expand to having a full time guitarist then Steve Lukather would have been one the best options.

The soundtrack to Dune is fairly reminiscent of Goblin regarding the style of playing on keyboards, guitar , bass and drums. If you listen to the entire soundtrack it's obvious that they have the potential to be Prog. ...however they were never considered Prog because they had hits. It's a tough call...but if you are patient and listen to Dune you should get the impression that they are Prog sounding throughout the album..

This. I have three of their albums (well, one is a best of). I'd say they are probably at least as much prog as Asia and they are on this site (under prog-related I think).

Toto is one of very few bands to have Miles Davies as a guest artist, late in Miles carear/life in 1985 on "Don't Stop Ne Now"

Three of 'em (I believe) played on Jon Anderson's In the City of Angels, and it still sucked. A resounding no!

Girl Goodbye has very catchy drum and bass guitar work, keys aren't bad either there are several prog related moments in totos discography but just not enough to make them prog related, but I'm glad I've seen them live a few times , they like to indulge a lot more in the area of prog related when playing live obviously amazing musicians.

The band once played in Wichita, and then flew to St. Louis. I guess you could say Toto wasn't in Kansas anymore.

Yep, HYDRA was their crossover prog album but really the only one. Sounds sorta like Steely Dan meets Saga. Not sure it's enough for anyone to add them to the site though because they are still primarily based in pop and funk and hard rock with progressive to touches. You'd have to convince an admin and i hear prog related is a very hard category to push through these days. Personally i can live without them here. When i think of TOTO i can only think of "Africa" and "Rosanna."
