I hear there's one called soulseek which beats everything (if only it weren't blocked on the campus network ) Does anyone know any way I can use a different port to get through, by the way? It's the same with Shareaza which I use for torrents.

My friend managed to download "Vegetable Man" by PINK FLOYD on WinMX, but I hear there a download programme called BEARSHARE.

I agree with youi Dennis, I've got a lot of good Prog stuff from WinMx. For layout and ease of use I believe its unrivalled!

REAL bad! WinMx was great! So many rare prog-related files, from not
only America, but from all continents. And I discovered so many more
prog artists that I would never have know about otherwise. I stated a
similar thread about this in the non-prog discussion area too. I did a
news search on this, and WinMx may move their operations from Canada to
somewhere in the South Pacific and could be up and running again within
a few months. Let's all pray this is true!

I wonder if slsk'll ever get threatened - I really do hope not because it'd be very unfair on the developers (for those unfamiliar, slsk was genuinely programmed and released as a legal, underground electronica filesharing network. It's only in the last few years that illegal downloaders have jumped on the program - including me )

Noticed in news reports that the RIAA has successfully forced Frontcode
to turn off the WinMX servers. Is this a good thing or a bad thing?
