Topic: Can somebody change of opinion? Posted: September 19 2005 at 14:31 |
It's a matter of fact that people can change opinions. In fact, in this kind of music which can evolve and grew up in us in a "special way"... it makes us to have an opinion in a specific period of time, and then it changes cuz my perception, thoughts, etc, have changed (according to the music)... you know...
So, i think the best way (if a system which we cannot change our ratings is not available) in rating music... is to be conscious of what we are doing, which means not to rate one album after listening to it the first time or even... within one month, you know.... the music has to grow on us... and then we can feel prepared to give a objective opinion about it... which i know is difficult, but we cannot be THAT subjective and give 5 stars to an album we love and we are conscious that it has has its failures. As the warning that appears when we wanna rate an album either with 1 or 5 stars... we have to be aware of an album we love can have some falures and the other way... when we rate an album with 1 star, we have to be aware that maybe it could have something good...
Well... If the "changing rates" is developt , i think it has to have a limit... for instance: We are able to change our rate for an album just one time.

hmm I don't think it is such a big problem, becouse 1 vote won't change much. But You're right, those who make decisions (on this case) should enable us to evaluate songs, headway made by rock groups once more. But seemingly their policy doesn't live up to our expectations.. We have to accept it. Chin up! don't worry be happy

In defence of the system, if people changed their votes all the time, the reviews and the charting system might become no good as reference to other people who might not know the artist at all (or at least not that well). That might make it more difficult to judge if the music was worth buying/downloading/performing.
I guess the best way to deal with this is to bear in mind that your review is 'for ever' and to think hard about how you rate it.

Maybe you are right, but I donīt think that people will be changing their reviews all the time, I donīt do it. Anyway, althought your point of view is reasonable I'm still thinking the best, especially for people to know what is worth buying/downloable, is the possibility of change. In this way the reviews became more honestly and trustworthy.

Well, the main question is not if Symphony X's album is great or not, it's the impossibility of change of opinion. I think it's neccesary to have the oportunity of correct your vote, don't you think?
(And yes, I'm talking to you, you are dead)

A few days ago I listened to an album (Symphony X - The Damnation Game), and I realize that itīs not so good as a I remember, then I went to vote it. In the past I gave the album 3 stars, but now I want to give 2, but, surprise!, I canīt correct my vote because of my e-mail (obviously is the same that before). I think is ilogical. People's taste have an evolution. Today maybe we belive one thing and tomorrow another, the experiencie make us learn. The same thing happened with others albums, I canīt change my mind and I think is unfair. What can I do?
(Sorry for my poor english, I hope yo understand what I try to explain).
