As for laws against callous owners, this is India, mate (not that big dog incident, that happened when I was over in the US). No laws nothing. I have had owners tell me when their dog was in a growly mood that yes, she bites. Uh oh!

I learnt to just ignore them and not make eye contact when they are wound up. Eye contact only aggravates them. Not long after this encounter with the super friendly retriever, my wife and I were taking a walk when we heard barking and saw this really big dog (as big as a St Bernard but not that breed) barking and running towards us angrily. I said to her, don't make a sound and don't look at it. We stood still for a few moments and then quietly crossed the road over to the other side. It was a calculated risk as the dog might have decided to give chase but I had a hunch that if we ignored it, it would calm down. And so it did. I have stuck to that thumb rule then. No matter how wound up it is, just ignore. If it still attacks you, it does. Not like trying to run away from it in such a mood will help matters at all.

If a dog barks at you and is aggressive you have to stay authoritative and speak in a loud voice, he'll turn around most of the time. Sociopaths will attack whatever you do but the chances you encounter one is quite slim and we have laws for them and their owners.

Precisely what made me afraid of dogs for a long time. The ones that were aggressive with owners who wouldn't vouch for their behaviour. What got me over the hump was visiting a family who had an amazing golden retriever. He didn't let out one bark the whole time. Just wanted to be petted the whole time we were there. Somehow after that, I stopped bothering even about the dogs that bark too much. |

It is what it is but maybe had she been given the business side of the band back in the day/had the confidence to handle it, who knows how things would have turned out. She's turned out to be very pragmatic which probably some of the others in the old line up weren't. And not pragmatic in a bad way but just using all avenues to plug the band to be able to actualise bigger dreams like these shows with orchestra. |

good point about fear of dogs, but also dogs that aren't trained can be very problematic, while cats who aren't trained are just cats!

Dogs are awesome afaic. Most people I know who dislike dogs are just scared of them...and I'm pretty sure some of them still believe that cats are associated to the devil.

I got to meet Annie at the Strawbs 50th anniversary where she was brought in to sing Sandy Denny's vocal parts. She is charming in person but I also respected her business acumen, as she took advantage of our brief conversation and photo op to plug Renaissance's own 50th anniversary celebration, particularly the presence of Jim McCarty at one of the shows upcoming this fall. She also uses her art to raise funds for hiring the chamber orchestra and producing a concert DVD. You can even commission a painting of your favorite pet. She is an animal lover and, just as I think there is something not quite right about a person who doesn't like animals, I think there is at least some good in anyone who loves animals

3 stars from me, good but not essential. I really like it, I've seen much worse, and I could actually imagine having this in my place, if only if it was cheap (but then I don't pay much for any artwork).

I live in the same general area as Annie. In fact I saw she was doing an art exhibit in New Hope back about maybe 10-12 years ago so I drove over and went in and met her. Someone took some pictures of she and I which I still have. I only spoke to her for a couple of minutes or so but she seemed nice.
To be honest I'm not a super huge fan of her visual art but I think she's very good at what she does. Her artwork is sort of new agey I guess you could say. That one in the first post here is pretty good though.

^ I don't dig her art work, either. But my first impression of the painting supplied by the OP is one of chaos or confusion. Striking colors but far from soothing. Lol!
