A lot of animosity here, but cricket surely is bland and boring, and yes, there was overkill on UK tv.

Yes, and variety is the spice of life! So watch some TV and play some video games too! |

well i guess the u.s. is just isolated, then. i don't follow any sport, though. if i stumble upon a soccer (football) game, i might watch it, but i really don't care who wins or loses. i concentrate on music...playing and listening. |

You can add to that list Zimbabwe, Bangladesh, Kenya, Canada, Namibia, Holland and UAE, all of whom have competed at the World Cup. There isn't any large scale international competition for American football, although baseball is an Olympic sport. |

"Death to Utopia! Death to faith! Death to love! Death to hope?" thunders the 20th century. "Surrender, you pathetic dreamer.”
"No" replies the unhumbled optimist "You are only the present." |

you know what sounds good right now? A cold- crisp beer. And maybe an egg salad sandwich to go with it.

it was the same with tennis in Germany in the late 80s and in the 90s, after Boris Becker won Wimbledon in 1985 and Steffi Graf soon followed in his footsteps. everybody wanted to follow in their footsteps. I was 16 when Becker won Wimbledon, a year younger than he, and began to play to then. needless to say I never reached that level. you should see Jean and me play; we are both equally bad, so our matches are just as suspenseful as the matches between Graf and Navratilova at the beginning of Graf's career were (though of course far from that level of quality; our passing shots are usually missing shots). but we have fun playing, and we don't care |

And India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and the West Indies. I'm not a fan but it is a lot more international than baseball or American football. I personally enjoyed England and Wales winning the Ashes because my brother in law is an Aussie. Didn't watch any of it, of course. |

To the Aussies watching. Well done in playing your part in what was a superb series. Your team are fantastic ambassadors for your country and cricket and all that it means. Unforgetable.

Ditto! Though I have to admit that all these folks suddenly "getting into" it now we've won the Ashes are annoying me a wee bit. It's like everyone suddenly digging prog because Yes somehow won an MTV award. Blergh. Speaking of which... cricket is surely the progger's sport of choice: complex, excessively long, boring for most people until they actually GIVE IT A BLOODY CHANCE. Oh yes indeed - cricket = prog. |
