Topic: Echolyn, Spock's Beard and the Flower Kings Posted: March 26 2018 at 15:56 |
Tough call between Echolyn and Spock's. I'll go Echolyn on the strength of Suffocating, TEIB, and Mei.

This. And I still voted all equally.
Spock's Beard immediately, The Flower Kings a minute, and Echolyn a while. But today? I love all these great bands and I still listen to their entire catalogs regularly.

The early Spock's Beard stuff is my favorite though I also like The Flower Kings.....never really warmed up to Echolyn.

^ Echolyn have fewer ratings for their albums on here so I'm guessing that will have an impact on whether people will chose them. Ideally they shouldn't vote for any band if they don't know all three but realistically speaking that's not how people think and I'm sure some will vote for SB or TFK despite not knowing echolyn as well as those two.

The Flower Kings, above Spock's Beard, and both way ahead of Echolyn.

Ok, Micky, now tell us what you really think.
Wobbler would go good up against Anekdoten and Anglagard. Maybe put White Willow in there too. I was going more for 90's prog with this batch though.

*spits wine all over monitor*
urgggg... could one have done worse than this.. yeah.. Echolyn could have been replaced with Wobbler
thank GOD for the none of the above votes... the only thing that sucks more perhaps than bad prog.. is regurgitated Retro Prog. My right trigger finger is more progressive than those groups...

Curiously I love initial albums of these three bands : Echolyn : "Same" 1991, "Suffocating the Bloom" 1992 and "As the World" The Flower Kings : "Back in the World of Adventures" 1995, "Retropolis" 1996 and "Stardust we are" 1997 Spock's Beard : "Beware of the Darkness" 1996, "The Kindness of Stranger" 1998 and "Day for Night" 1999 But after this initial phase, IMHO they start to loss their natural style and "dive" in search of more complexity in songs which IMHO don't work so well !!! Due this I vote for equality !

Voted for Spock's Beard, but the three bands are ok.

^I would pick either of those Swedish bands over these but I am a fan of all three in the poll here. Spock's Beard was my pick, more specifically the Neal Morse years. I also prefer the earlier albums by The Flower Kings while Echolyn are hit and miss throughout their years but mostly hit.

I apologize to Anglagard and Anekdoten fans since they were also acclaimed in that decade but I didn't want to include too many. However, I thought I would express my gratitude to those two Swedish bands but I guess that could be another poll for another day.

All great bands but if forced to choose at gunpoint I'd have to pick the Beard.

I did a google search(what other website would pop up? Lol)and noticed therre were already two polls for TFK and SB and even though they were from quite a while ago I thought I would do it again but add Echolyn this time.
All three were(along with Porcupine Tree who imo have an unfair advantage so weren't included)were the biggest prog bands from the 90's(echolyn were even on a major label briefly). Anyway, which one do you prefer?
Also, a big reason for starting this poll is there seems to be a definite lack of post seventies bands(other than maybe say Marillion or IQ)who show up in these polls.
