Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath - just my personal view as a teenager in the 70s in Northern England as I discovered rock - along with the prog rock of Yes, Genesis, Pink Floyd and ELP (although there was seemingly no great distinction between the genres in those days). At school you were either pop or rock - singles or albums etc. No doubting the quality and legacy of the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and the Who - but they were all from that mid-60s period that my parents 'owned' and all 3 of those great bands began as pop groups (even if it was damn fine pop) before developing into what I consider rock. Zep, Purple and Sabbath came fresh to me and belonged to me and my album-swapping friends and that will always be the 'Classic Rock' trio for me.

Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, The Who
These days Pink Floyd might replace The Who though. I suppose you could easily replace one of them with the Beatles but these days classic rock seems to be seventies and later.

Legendary are the ones who pioneered new sounds, new forms of Rock....even setting a whole new trend........ Easily Pink Floyd, Black Sabbath and The Who.

I'd say all those guys are beyond classic and more like legendary. When I think of 'classic' it tends more toward Creedence, Foghat, CSN&Y, Bad Co., Sabbath, etc.

Yeah, this would be the triumvirate of classic rock for me.

The first three that sprung to my mind were Pink Floyd, The Who, and Cream. In particular three sings came to mind immediately: Pink Floyd's "Fearless", The Who's "The Hawker" (had to look up the name cause I forgot) and Cream's "White Room". The Jimi Hendrix Experience was the next to come to mind.

In the strictest sense, only 2: Deep Purple and Led Zeppelin. After that the choices snowball.
