The quickest way to bad sound is an overkill of effects. If you're looking for good sound, disable all effects and then work your way up.

BTW: The only effect I use in winamp is volume normalizing at work. Nothing else, no EQ, nothing.

I'm not sure if you could create one just for prog music. There's such a wide variety e.g. from prog-metal through to Rush through to Soft Machine. I personally would probably wack the bass up but then I'm a bass player.

I would think you just need to experiment depending on who you're listening to.
