Thanks aglasshouse - Honestly I can't say that we were aiming for a certain genre - in the band we all have a strong foundation in the Progressive Rock classics, Yes, KC, Genesis.. but aside from that the lead guitarist and I (vocalist / rhythm guitarist / keys) used to play jazz, so the harmonies are very influenced by modern jazz. The drummer is a huge fan of Tool.
I'd say in terms of instrumentation and arrangement we take after the classics, but in terms of tone and thematic content we take after Radiohead. In this song, especially at the beginning, I think you can really hear the influence from Genesis' folkier side - 12 string arpeggios, etc. But as it goes on it gets progressively more electric, and darker. By the way awesome avatar :)

Very nice. What genre are you aiming for? Seems very neo to me personally.

Hi everyone -
My group Medulla and I have just uploaded our first music video, entitled Broken Machines - we are in talks with a few indie labels to release our first record soon, hopefully I will be posting on Prog Archives in a few months with good news! In the meantime here is the link to the video: https://youtu.be/0MxuQJdqapk and our facebook page: facebook.com/medullamusic We began in our hometown of Austin Texas, and were lucky enough to go on an adventure to Berlin Germany two and a half years ago - we're still here and very inspired. I'd love to hear your feedback about Broken Machines! Cheers! Matt
