Thanks for the responses, but I'm hesitating a bit. I've been listening to their first album again and I'm falling out of love a bit. Been listening to the Mute Gods album and I might go foir that instead.

That box-set seems a very good option to start with the band. It seems to have the first 3 albums (the Dream Reality trilogy), plus EP's, bonus discs (for Rapid Eye Movement, which may not be so easy to obtain now), live performances, etc. In short, a very extensive collection of music from that era, which may just as well be considered the "classic" era of the band (if the term can be applied to such a young band... though now more than 10 years since those albums have been released, perhaps it isn't even such a young band anymore). I guess you should check out the music from at least those first 3 albums before making the investment, though, for the music may be heavier than what the last album got you used to.

I started losing interest after ADHD (not saying everything after this is not good).

They're all good albums, but Out of Myself and Second Life Syndrome are truly stunning.

I've tried Amazon, but they don't have anything really cheap either. If possible i'd rather buy elsewhere, Amazon are an appalling company.

Must admit, having listened to ADHD and Shrine on Sptofiy, I wasn't as impressed as the others stuff i've heard.

I got into Riverside about a year and a half ago, and I have since gotten everything except for their first album. I got a chance to see them live a few months ago. Love this band.
My point of entry with Riverside was Shrine of New Generation Slaves, and I still think that one is the best. Song for song, it's the most consistent. Time Machine and ADHD are next in line, though they are very different albums. They were a bit heavier earlier on, but it's all great music.

Hi. You said you have so little money. I recommend you their last album "Love, Fear and the Time Machine" because this album have mellow atmosphere and catchy arrangement IMO. Talking about "The best of Riverside" is very difficult. They have many Perfect albums with Different Styles . This may confuse people that want to start "Listening Riverside" IMO. Their last album "Love, Fear and the Time Machine" may upset their huge fans but very good stuff for you IMO.

I would start from the beginning. They havent made bad albums. Even the side project "Lunatic Soul" is part of the adventure.

Thanks, but I actually think the opposite. I dislike compilations because i'd rather hear the albums those songs were on. Hopefully also they will be just as good as the songs featured on the compuilation. Fortunately, I can listen to their stuff on spotify beforehand, even though i don't much care for the way spotify works.
From what i have heard thus far, I'm not sure i'd call them metal though (I wouldn't call Porcupine Tree that either, fwiw).
I've just been searching around for something new to listen to, and trying to build a little collection of discs (otherwise i'd get their work on mp3).

When I really want to know a band and don't want to buy too many albums, I look for a good live album from their peak period that includes songs from their best reviewed albums. I prefer live albums over compilation albums, because if I later buy the studio albums, I won't have the exact same versions of the songs (plus I usually like live versions a lot too). So, in this case, it might be their Reality Dream live album, which spans their first 3 albums, which are the Reality Dream trilogy. However, Anno Domini High Definition is a wonderful albums too, and if you liked the first song from their last album, then I guess you would surely like the whole album, and then perhaps you could work backwards, since this last two albums have been less heavy than what they did before.

If you like the opening track on the new one then likely you will like Shrine of New Generation Slaves. Albums prior to these are more metal based, which is fine by me......I enjoy all their albums
