I think if Alonso really wanted to go they would release him, but not for less than £25million. I don't think Merc are willing to spend that kind of money to be honest.
A shame, as having Hamilton and Alonso in the same team 10 years on from their time at McLaren would be epic, for what it's worth I don't think we'd see the same kind of acrimony as we did back then but there's still room for all kinds of fireworks there.

That won't happen, I'm afraid. His contract is locked and McClaren won't release him.

To see that red helmet in action in my life would be amazing, but it's only dream-worthy. Sounds like Alonso is getting strong consideration by Mercedes. That might annoy Lewis a little bit, even though he wants the best there is to challenge him.

No shock, but this is my hope.  I understand that there is a greater likelihood that aliens will visit earth and give everyone a free lifetime supply of hamburgers before that happens though.

I would love Hulkenberg who I've long felt is deserving but he's too"old" now. They will want a youngster who's hot and upcoming. Hulk has experience of course and has proven to be capable. Hell really lots are qualified.

Just saw the news. Wow. Guess can't blame the guy for wanting to go out on top. Crazy to think he's really not that old, but I've been hearing his name forever it feels like! Oh yes the discussion of who will take the seat shall be juicy. .....any chance of Alonso? LOL

Thats why I think Sainz and Grosjean are the 2 most likely suspects to get the seat, both are going to be relatively easy to extricate from their current contracts, have experience and are known to be quick. I'm not sure this will make JJ happy. I'm certainly not as he kept Hamilton honest.  This reminds of F1 in the seventies and eighties. When a driver was lucky enough to survive until he won the title, he would then pack it in. I'm sure Nico's decision was based on family concerns, so good luck to him and many thanks.
