How about Mark Zondor (fates warning) then he is much more down to earth Just seems like a really nice guy and he has incredible skills and could do the job well. Tongue

that's my second pick. But guys we are getting ahead of ourselves Peart hasn't made his exit official as of yet but if he does it doesn't have to be the end it could be the start of something new. I have plenty of faith in Geddy and Alex to continue on regardless Wink

Tough one...If under a different name then maybe Portnoy could sit in....I would also like to think Gavin Harrison as I think he has better rhythm than Portnoy and can play more intricate songs. His fills are pretty good and his demeanor fits with Geddy and Alex. Gavin has that jazz playing ability too, for some reason I think that is a huge plus.

So, I agree with you that without Peart there should not, and very likely will not, be any Rush. But in case they would choose to go on with someone else, or if Geddy Lee and Alex Lifeson would go on with a new band (I would expect with the idea of continuing the Rush tradition), who do you think would be a good new drummer? Perhaps if they were to continue with another name, they coul even experiment with some other musicians as well...

Blasphemy!! Portnoy in Rush.....NEVER! Geddy has said several times in interview that without these 3 guys there is no Rush. People can do strange things and change minds but Portnoy can be such a dick and douche he does not fit the Rush profile.

I love Portnoy drumming and think he can create and has, great music....

I somehow don't see Rush continuing with the same name if any of the 3 isn't in. They have been together for so long that it just wouldn't be the same. But if someone were to take Peart's place, I guess indeed Portnoy would be the man.

Phil Collins as the drummer of Rush ? he could do it but I would pity Alex and Geddy if he did. Ermm

The obvious Guy to replace Peart is Mike Portnoy somebody who has been greatly influenced by Rush for many Decades. I don't care what Portnoy is doing now it cant be as important as Rush ...Make it so Big smile

I`m a huge Rush fan I really am but this news isnt a shock to me I sort of feel like we have been slave driving Peart and making him do it for us since the mid 90's, its as if hes not getting much out of it anymore and that's self evident in the lyrics since the mid 90's the inspiration just isn't there ...well not for me anyway. Smile

I`ll sign off on "Counterparts" that's the last CD that I felt the synergy of Rush and truly what Rush represents after that it wasnt enough to win me over though it did win plenty of younger fans , so more younger fans but worse music .. hardly a win. Tongue

^hard to imagine there is a country, much less in Europe, that Rush hasn't played LOL

Granted they are no Iron Maiden (who is) but that is a band that did get around if you know what I mean.

He's very fast, very accurate, creative in use of equipment, but more a technician than a drummer.

Don't get me wrong, I do rate him - but he's just one of a number of drummers which include Joe Morello, Ginger Baker, Carl Palmer, Corky Laing etc etc, most of which I've been lucky enough to see live. Jazz drummers tend to do it for me, to be honest.

I don't believe in lists or comparatives. I play lots of instruments including very basic percussion stuff (mainly Arabic influenced) - what normally happens is that Magazine X or Website Y say "Well, this person is the best guitarist/drummer/nose flute player in the world" - this is invariably picked up by other, say, non nose flute players.... "Wow, Albert Snoadley is the best nose flute player ever"...... it's not a competition, there's no such thing as "best drummer / guitarist / sackbut player".

He's a good drummer. There's some things he does which I like, some which I don't. There are other drummers available. Your experience may vary.

I haven't really compared the drumming between studio and live songs from them, but just by what I compare by memory, I usually like the live versions better, and perhaps the drumming is too similar between both versions, but still it sounds more... alive on the live renditions, enough to make me apreciate him more live than on studio.

Agree 100%--especially the swing part but was afraid to say it---try to avoid incoming attacks lol.

I like Rush don't love them---lot's of prog bands a lot more interesting to me---but I thought his retiring

was a classy thing to do while still on top---unlike one of my fav bands who seem to want to go on no matter how pitiful it all seems.
